Yes...the NSA can take your Laptop

It's pretty obvious that we as a society are now made up of two groups. There are those who, for better or worse, have moved their lives into the digital realm, and those who haven't.

I would like to introduce you to someone in the latter category. His name is Edward Korman and he is a federal judge in New York state. He had a case before him involving a U.S. citizen – a Ph.D. student at McGill University in Montreal – who had his computer confiscated while returning to the States. The judge ruled, sweepingly, that, yes, the federal government had a right to confiscate laptops at the border without probable cause.

I see this getting very ugly, the government has taken the shape of Nazi Germany in many ways it seems...espcially with the "ohh yes we can" attitude lately, stuff like "yes we can spy on you,yes we can tap your phone and computer without your premission and oh hell yeah hand over your laptop fool !....anymore discussion on who is the worst president ? guess what ...he's right here right now in our white house.

Godfather.

535 people have the power to do all of it and the pursestrings to make it happen. The blame or credit depending on your point of view , lies with them. They craft the law and enact it and if the Pres vetoes can over ride that veto. Both sides of the aisle are saying this is legit.

    I completely disagree.

Actually the RNC just passed a resolution declaring these practices unconstitutional. They are going against what the NSA is doing while Obama's press secretary is still defending it.

    Just saying.

How do you suppose that the Judge constitutes somebody who hasn't 'moved his life into the digital realm'? How did you arrive at that conclusion?

RNC ISNT The US CONGRESS. Just sayin.

All this is laughable to me, really. IF those that voted for the patriot act came out and said ," you know, we didnt think it would go this far or were just wrong to begin with , riding the fear wave" I'd find this mild outrage against the Pres and NSA credible.

At the end of the day the circus with the same fucking clowns , is still in town.

    "Heil", Godfather, "Heil".

Anyone taking any bets that little if any of this will change with the next presidency, no matter what his or her wing?

Oh, I got that from just seeing the film "Green Card", a rather witty romantic comedy. The girl accuses the guy of being right wing and he answers, "You're the one with the wing, not me." :))

As I said above brian, same fucking clowns in the circus that still in town. WE are at fault for that. I think there is more individualism in whats best for me the country can go fuck itself I got mine than huh, this might be better overall for the country.

Governments might take a lesson in how AA functions. Which i think unsung would appreciate.

The irs has always abused it's power periodically. It happened when Bush was pres and their was an emphasis for them to lighten up. The NSA is abusing power because they were given the green light 12 years ago, and they have been since then. The debt can level off, but it will depend more on the next President at this poiint. Benghazi was made larger than it is by fox news. Taxes are actually at a 30 year low. Compared to 1988, you're only paying more if you make over $200,000, and most everyone else is paying less.

You're critical of the nsa, but it's fear based reporting that you keep referencing which led to the Patriot Act being put in place. If you buy into the rhetoric that our way of life is under continual threat, it opens the door for these policies to be put in place "for our well being". You even reference Nazis in your post. Your fear makes you more susceptible to authoritarians, not less.

I agree. But at least it's more than the silence that's coming from the DNC. There are people in Congress that are fighting, it's just that they end up getting slammed by the media for it.
