Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks Leaving Allman Brothers

The Allman Brothers Band have suffered one of the more devastating blows of their 45-year career: longtime singer-guitarist Warren Haynes and slide guitarist Derek Trucks announced tonight that they will depart the band at the end of the year. "For 25 years and 15 years respectively, we've had the honor and pleasure of playing, living, learning, and traveling with the Allman Brothers Band, one of the truly legendary rock and roll bands," the two musicians wrote in a joint statement. "We will be forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience, and for the love, enthusiasm, and support of the incredible fans. We are both preparing to dig even deeper into our various creative and musical endeavors and, as a result, 2014 will be our final year as part of the band."

    They'll be back. These sorts of statements are silly. All it means is they are taking a couple years off from the band and the constant touring to focus on their own bands for a while. To think the Allmans will never play another show/tour is silly (health willing, of course). They haven't put a studio album out in over 10 years anyway, so it's about the constant touring and the time that takes.

    I'd actually be shocked if they didn't play the Beacon run next year. Maybe, they take a year off from that, but to think I'll never see another Allman Brothers show after this year (other than the fact as artists age, that's always a possibility) b/c of this announcement is hard to believe.

    EDIT: Oh, and BTW, Greg is focused on his bio movie that is just beginning production, so while he can't technically leave his family, he's leaving the Allman Brothers also to focus on other projects.
