QOTSA Where to start?

So these guys have really grown on me. Watching lots of stuff on the tube. I picked up Like Clockwork as I really liked it. I'm looking to add another piece of their wax. What's the next LP I should pick up?

  • In terms of material, you should check out Rated R and Songs For The Deaf next, definitely their best along with Like Clockwork. In terms of owning them on vinyl, I hear the re-issue of Rated R sounds pretty poor, and you will have to fork out a lot for a genuine original of Songs For The Deaf. I've got my fingers crossed for a decent quality reissue of SFTD this year.

You started at the most recently released album, so if I were you, I would just work my way backwards through their discography.

You can't really go wrong with any of their albums, but I would probably start at the beginning and see how they have evolved over the years. The only album I didn't love was Era Vulgaris and even that album is still worth purchasing. Just a fantastic band.

I wish PJ would inject some of the balls this band has in to their music.

Rated R and Songs for the Deaf are essential

Also, if you are like the sound of QoTSA, check out The Desert Sessions.. It's the QoTSA + random amazing friends getting a little messed up and making music. A lot of weird stuff but there are definitely some gems.
  • So I picked up Era Vulgaris today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The guys at the record shop said to be careful with Songs for the Deaf as there are some horrible sounding boots on wax. I asked if they could order me a Lullabies on MOV to which they obliged.
  • First I'd go with the live cd/dvd (the one they recorded in london during the lullabies tour) and The first 3 records. DEAF is an absolute monster and is usually everybody's favorite.
  • If you get the first record, get the remastered one/reissue on vinyl with "spiders and vinagroons" on it...
