Essential 80's Albums

I think this decade gets over looked quite often. Especially when you read a favorite albums list which tends to be heavy on albums from the 70s & 90's.
So I thought it would be interesting to hear about some of your favorite music from the 80s, maybe a top 10?

Tim - The Replacements
Nebraska - Springsteen
Pretty Hate Machine - NIN
Full Moon Fever - Tom Petty

Also just start listening to The Smiths so I might add them to my list once I listen to more of their stuff.

slicingupeyeballs.com did a poll for the best of each year of the 80's (more college/alternative) this past year. Click through... http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2013/11/25/best-albums-of-1989/

I tend to agree with a lot of the top 10's here.

Not mentioned yet (unless I missed them somehow):

Prince & the Revolution - Purple Rain
Guns 'n Roses - Appetite for Destruction

Both just phenomenal albums, IMO, with almost no filler.

Talk Talk were so underated, Spirit of Eden was a beautifully haunting album, and also one of my favourites as was Laughing Stock
  • You guys have a weird definition of essential.

    This hasn't been listed yet?

We are weird. It is arguably the most essential 80's rock album.
