The Rag Picker and the Wind
After it blows thru her hair.
As it moves thru the cool night air
The church bell rings
Carrying the broken silence of these small town streets
Into valleys of history unknown.
A pair of reading glasses sit upon the table
Lonely for the words in a open book
Placed by Og Mandino carefully
One loving memory at a time.
And still I wonder where the Rag Picker has gone.
And where does the wind go
After it blows thru her hair.
The cars on the street move in lost direction
following shadows in the night
Cast by street lights placed on sidewalks
Faded and cracked by the fury of the sun.
Casting light in all directions
Giving reason to the night and the wind that passes by
In search of the Rag Picker who never said good-by.
And I still need to know
Where does the wind go
After it blows thru her hair.
The wind never tells it secretes
It never says where it’s been
Cold and lonely are the seasons of wither
That never seem to end.
And still I wonder where has the Rag Picker gone.
Godfather.

I just returned this evening from a visit to my aging and loved Nona. She had a stroke many years ago (Dec 24, 1999) and has been slowly wasting away in a vegetative state ever since; Fourteen years chained to a bed...breaks my heart. She only ever gave me love and attention. She hasn't recognized me in years.
Then I read "cold and lonely are the seasons of wither. That never seem to end". I thought tonight's tears were laying quietly beside her on the bed; I'll have a few more for mine.
Thanks for that one. Og Mandino, Godfather, too you both.
The wind may never tell its secrets
But powered by love
my voice will echo throughout all eternity
"I'll always remember you, Nona". .
