An explosion hit a trolleybus near a busy market during the morning rush hour Monday, a day after a blast at Volgograd's main train station killed 17 people and wounded at least 35 others.

Like Sunday's attack, the blast Monday was a terrorist act, Vladmir Markin, a spokesman for the country's federal investigation agency, told the state-run news agency RIA Novosti.

it seems to be "business as usal" for the terrorist groups that keep doing this stuff.

Funny how these bombings didn’t start until little Ms. Pussy Riot, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova got released. Just saying!!!! Now that she's an 'activist" I'm wondering how far her and her troupe are willing to go to 'end Putin's presidency’.

  • i haven't been following this story. i need to read up a bit before commenting, but it seems that there is always a spike in attacks and groups of violent people "making statements" come olympic time. hopefully the security can be beefed up and hopefully we do not end up with another munich on our hands. like i said, i could be way off because i have not been following this, but it seems like this happens a lot come olympic time.

So you think one individual recently released from prison could organize orchestrated suicide bombings? You're giving her a lot of credit. How do you explain the bombing on a Volgograd bus earlier this fall, while Tolokonnikova was still incarcerated?

Do you know anything about Russian history for the last 10 years? Most terrorist activities have been carried out by Chechen or Dagestani rebels. Volgograd is a transportation hub for anyone traveling to the Caucusus, the region which includes Chechnya and Dagestan, and Sochi where the Olympic games will be held. There have already been threats against the games and it's assumed that these bombings are related to those threats.

There's a big difference between someone who was imprisoned for artistic expression (what we typically call "free speech") calling for a change in leadership and an organization resorting to terrorism to draw attention to its cause of establishing a separate country.

    1. First of all, the GROUP was anti-government to start with, so the voices appear to have been vocal prior to going to prison. How interesting it was that such a massive response to their arrest was launched, even though they were arrested within the legal framework of the country’s laws. So, it is not like the Group didn’t have resources to reach ‘like minded’ people. With that said, I never stated that she organized, called for, or orchestrated any of the bombings; I stated that it was funny about the timing of the bombings. Maybe it was known group using the timing to carry out the bombings or maybe it was hero-worshiping status.

    2. Your right, terrorists don’t have faces, just a religion and history has no value until it’s time to retaliate.

I think we have learned the ‘hard way’ that you don’t have to be ‘part of an organization’ to set off a bomb to get the attention for how you think a person, a country or policy has somehow wronged you.

    3. This whole thing that because they’re musicians/artists their actions constitute ‘free speech’ is bullshit. As much as I respect Pearl Jam and their political rants at concerts, to me, it’s their concert and their right to do so. However, if PJ were to flash mob the National Cathedral calling for the overthrow of our government, I would expect for them to be arrested, also. Would this Group have had a trial 10 years ago?
