Association of Retarded Citizens
and the version from eds solo shows is sooo much better than anything he did with it on the 03 tour... INCREDIBLE

saw him perform it twice on the solo tour and the only thing i can say is - primal
Here's my take on why the song is Called "Arc." An arc is the sentiment of a circle or part of a circle. In a metaphoric sense, I believe the song is called "Arc" because after Roskilde, the Pearl jam fans and band suffered a tremendous loss and so the pearl jam circle of fans is not a complete circle, it's broken and not fully round.

Yeah i've seen it twice...first time during the 03 tour, and once during Ed's solo tour....both were fantastic, but the last one was just mind blowing. It's definitely the one "song" that you absolutely have to see live to fully appreciate.
That is so true! Primal is just the word to describe it.
What a beautiful piece of art!
I do not know if this is true but it one of the most interesting ideas that I have seen on this board for a while. I get on here a couple of times a during my long work day and most of what is on here can be mind numbing. Thanks
wow. Thats intelligent enough to make me hope that it is the meaning behind the name, well done, great post
Wow. Yes nice sentiment!
I just put about 10 seconds of thought into this admittedly ... and just stopped. It's not Ark, it's Arc. But Ark (boat/vessel) had some good conotations as well, floating away, or storing in a vessel (ie the Ark of the Covenant, the vessel with which to hold holy relics, becoming holy in itself... this song, holding the memory ... oh well, maybe Arc is a typo?)
Typically in fiction you hear of "character development arc" -- the path of character growth throughout a story -- in relation to the song, it grows, it builds, it represents a "filling out" as more layers, more details are added on each pass -- the rise and fall. Also, an electrical arc is what happens when the stuff "jumps." A bolt, a jolt, a zap -- which I'm sure the event was for all of them.
But my favorite: the apparent path of a celestial body as it rises above and falls below the horizon. But no, yours is truly a wonderful insight, red.
May be..or maybe he´s is using the arc for send one message through his voice to reach something, or someone, in somewhere...who knows..
