I watched Smashing Pumpkins on Guitar Center/Live Sessions.

Started out good enough, covered Space Oddity by David Bowie to kick it off which was cool.


But then Corgan started talking.

He was very deliberate in taking an axe to his contemporaries in a desperate attempt to hoist up his own (Smashing Pumpkins') body of work. He even mentioned Pearl Jam by name. Basically said that he had to learn how to compose "pop songs" to survive like everyone else, and Smashing Pumpkins was always the only one true to art and the history of it. I think he used the word "sophisticated".

I like Smashing Pumpkins, but this is a huge turnoff that the frontman feels this way about most of my favorite musicians/bands and favorite genre. It kind of sucks that he feels that way. I think a lot of good can come out of all the surviving 90s alt bands getting along and respecting one another. This probably also explains why Smashing Pumpkins consists of Corgan and basically 3 kids.

But someone needs to smack him and tell him to get over himself.



I did like what he said about live shows being like the circus, in that you always see the elephants, but show up every year to see what new is in store.

I liked a decent portion of the interview, as well as most of the live performance. Its just once he went down that road, he kept going back at it and it was such a buzzkill. I couldnt help but walk away with negative feelings.

He's been a pretentious asshole since the beginning. This is nothing new.

He trashed soundgarden for getting back together for the money, which is funny since they have all of their members in tact. If corona wasn't doing it for the money,why keep the SP name??

I like his music, but he's a whiney little brat. Remember when he quit the music business because he couldn't compete with Britney (but then he starts boning Jessica Simpson)?? When did music become a competition??? It's all about ego to him.
