Washington (CNN) – Support for the country's new health care law has dropped to a record low, according to a new national poll.

And a CNN/ORC International survey released Monday also indicates that most Americans predict that the Affordable Care Act will actually result in higher prices for their own medical care.

Only 35% of those questioned in the poll say they support the health care law, a 5-point drop in less than a month. Sixty-two percent say they oppose the law, up four points from November.

Nearly all of the newfound opposition is coming from women.

  • I will preface with stating that it would be amazing if everyone could have access to affordable healthcare. My own father does not have access through his employer and cannot afford a stand alone plan. I am unemployed at the moment and do no have health care myself(I am not receiving any type of government assistance however).

But I am a believer in the free market and limited government intervention. Especially when it comes to something as personal as healthcare.

However, those that have argued against the ACA have been telling us that prices would rise for a long time. And that's makes sense, to me at least.

What about those that have lost their plans that weren't up to the government's standard, (who's to tell me what's good enough for myself/family, the government? I don't think so.) Are they going to be able to find an alternative plan that is going to be affordable, allow them to keep their same doctors, cover their prescriptions the same way the old plan did?

Take a look at the way the VA is run. Talk with anyone that has received care through that system(government run) and find out their satisfaction with their health plans and care. From interacting with my fiends and family who are veterans, it is sub par compared to the free market.

To me, it's not surprising that people are changing their minds on something of this size. There have been broken promises by the President, exemptions of congress themselves, numerous tehnical issues, and even entire states moving to exempt their citizens from participating.

We will all have to see how it works out in the end, but in my opinion, this ACA will be looked back upon as a failure in health care policy.

Just my 2 cents without trying to politicize the issue. We all know that has been done enough already....

  • kinda like romneycare, right?

    its the same bill.

romney had to run away from his crowning legislative achievement because of the extreme right wing of his party. what a shame that was.

My health care has not changed. I still get the Cadillac coverage as I've had for the past 35 years or so.
    ...
I also believe that I should have to do one of two things:
    a. Pay more of my share of Health Care Insurance cost that my employer is paying and get the tax write off... or
    b. My coverage should be included as part of my income. It has dollar value and I haven't paid shit for the past 35 years for it.
    ...
I am grateful I was able to freeload on the Health Care Insurance gravy train and don't think it'll be the end of the world if I were asked to pay for what I have been given for free... for the last 35 years.

What about the people that have paid for their insurance for the last 35 years? Should they suffer increasing costs? What are their two options? That's great that you haven't had to pay, but what about those that have?

Not trying to be argumentative, just a question :)

Just because you didn't write the check doesn't mean you didn't pay for it. It was compensation that was taken out before it was given to you. I resent when my compensation is spent for me without my choice. I would have been much better off if that money had actually reached my pocket.

  • Yeah.

An "ORC International" poll. Reported on a CNN "blog" (that anyone can have... even you... there's no fact checking on those... they're part of the "free user-created content and opinion" part).

There's a good source of information.
  • In related news, your mom says you're pretty. And hey... that's 100% of women surveyed so it MUST be true.

and amazingly enough... it's not all about you. The whole world doesn't revolve around you and your wallet. IF you can afford to pay for your own health insurance... pay for it. Don't expect me to pay for your sorry ass if you get in a car accident. It's not my problem. Stop being a moocher.
