I was talking to some friends about going but I ended up not getting tickets. I wanted to go mostly because it is at the Big House (and because it's hockey!)

Then, my wife & I were talking to my sister in law and her husband about going to Soldier field. We are Blackhawks fans & they are Pens fans. So, that made more sense but those plans fell through too.

I guess I'll be watching some very cool outdoor hockey games from the comfort of my warm & comfy house. :D

Plus, ticket prices were a little steep to sit so far away from the rink and sit out in the freezing cold.

All good points, Jason! I usually love watching things from the comfort of my couch, too. Just couldn't pass up such a huge event a mile from my house! We went to the Big Chill game between UM and MSU for $15 a seat and it was an amazing event! Tickets for the Winter Classic are more than 10 times as much.

It should be a world record crowd, so excited to be a part of it. Sorry I'll miss another chance to meet you in person. Hopefully, we will get a chance soon!

 Im hesitant cause I think I would enjoy the game more on TV because of the distance between the rink and the stands... but we'll see hw it goes. I'd rather have the Islanders win than the Rangers. ;)

I wanted to go, but ultimately chose other fun things over it (PJ in Seattle!).
  • Last time I was at the big house the only washrooms were portopotties outside the stadium. I know it was college football, but I think that there will be a tad more drinkers at this event. Good luck with the bathroom situation.

    Either are the Rangers.
    In fact , they're horrible.

I would attend just for the event itself, but like others have said the layout on the stadium infield
    will make sightlines crazy.
TV may be the better option. :)

 So there was no ambiguity about my feelings? I will say it looks cool on tv.

For the record, I think hockey is the best sport to see live after college basketball. I just don't see the allure of the big stadium experience. I've been in a stadium before. I've seen a hockey game before. I've even been outside before. I'm not sure I need to PAY to combine the 3 when you have no chance to see the key elements of the activity - the puck and the ant like players. If you have a free ticket, I would definitely be willing to buy you a beer. I'll do almost anything for free...well, for the cost of a beer.

But, as they say - to each their own.

But, as they say - to each their own.

The allure for me is to see two original six teams renewing a rivalry in front of 110,000+ fans at the awesome Michigan Stadium, about a mile from my house. I see it as a special event, not something to see every movement of the puck and every check and nuance of the game. I was at the Big Chill game back in 2010 at Michigan Stadium and it was a fantastic time.

Wrigley was my first PJ concert and I will never forget the whole experience - was it the best sounding or have the best sight lines, hell no, but I didn't care, I was getting to see my favorite band at a place that is very special to Eddie. Would I want to see every concert that way - no; should they play all hockey games in football stadiums, no, but once a year or so, it is pretty cool to me. Don't know another chance for me to be part of a world record, so I am excited.

I agree with you about the final four. But we know college athletics is all about the money.

Enjoy your beer on your couch, that is where I am usually, too! :D

I want to go but my eyesight combined with high ticket prices might make it more worthwhile to watch it from my couch. I know there is no way I will be able to see the puck from the nose bleeds. :(

I wouldn't pay 40 to go to an NHL game in arena sure as heck wouldn't pay 3-4 times that to watch an nhl game in a college stadium ... and isn't michigan stadium bench seating? if so, even less reason to attend.

No Winter Classic for me. I'll settle for the mild temps of Los Angeles in January and look forward to the Stadium Series game here at the end of the month between the Kings and Ducks. Excited as I got tickets for Xmas. Should be an interesting experience considering it'll be unlike any of the other outdoor games that are in cold climates.
