I applaud him, but why was he buying tickets?

Whoa! His company was bought in 2012 for over a billion.

Nice to see the typical greedy CEO has achieved redemption ;)

I love when people give because they can, and because they want to.

Also not sure why the need to buy tickets - maybe a rush? - but yup, good on him.

Greedy bastard is probably using it as a tax write-off on a charity he oversees :geek: ;)
  • his win was by subscription (no ticket-you pay for a year's worth of draws on the same numbers and WCLC lets you know if you've won). he probably had it for years before he was super rich and just kept paying for it every year without a second thought.

Interesting I didn't know you could subscribe into buying tickets that way. Either way good for him and to the charity he chooses to give it all to. BRAVO!

  • i will never understand how people get an unfair amount of luck while others get shit. the guy sold a company for a billion dollars, AND he wins a 40 million dollar lottery. some people are poor as shit, play the lottery every week and never win $20. there have been many people who have won the lottery more than once, which takes an overabundant amout of luck...

i commend this guy for what he did, but if i had a billion dollars i would not play the lottery. if i wanted to be charitable and give away 40 million, i would just donate my own fucking money because i could never spend a billion anyway.

his wife died two years ago to cancer. he started a foundation in her name and is giving part of the money to that foundation and the rest to other charitable organizations. that's probably better than a broke person winning and pissing it away on false friends and bad choices, which is what many lottery winners end up doing. working in the lottery business, I hear about all the people who "won it big" and their lives end up worse than they were before they won. they don't know how to handle it. and there's no regulation on making people take financial counseling or anything when they win.

From different news reports that i've read sounds like he was a pretty charitable person before the lotto win ... he's doing a great thing, thats whats important ... imo.

Maybe he played the lottery with the intent of giving winnings to charity. Also, who says he hasn't and doesn't give plenty ofnhis own money to charity as well?? Given what he's doing here, I think that is more than likely. Not sure how you can have negative feelings about this. This guy winning will do way more people good than if pretty much anyone else in the country won. Thisbreally could not have gone better. I am not clear on how anyone could begrudge someone's random luck, as though it were unfair, but especially don't see how you think there could be a better possible outcome with this lottery draw, discounting winning it yourself.
