the oldest nights I've ever known
I think the flakes were as big as me
I think the table I knelt by and
............played with the lambs
.........was as big as me
the soft and the silence
the desperation I felt for the deer

at night

five isolated memories
of the oldest nights I've ever known
contain darkness
and a silence so deep

except for the songs
and the christmas tree lights
