They closed their set at Groundwork in 2001 with this song right after 911. A short set but a powerful ending.

I wanted to hear Tremor Christ more than any other song, but now Long Road is right there with it.

They opened Key Arena in 2009 with Long Road. I could go for that again.

i have a feeling they will pay tribute to him in some way. i hope it is long road. we lost one of the good ones. and that song would be a very fitting tribute.
"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry."  - Lincoln

"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
  • Parting Ways and Man of the Hour could part of a fitting tribute as well.

    I believe it!
  • I would actually go another direction with this. The current President of South Africa is celebrating his life. On top of which, I would assume the plan was for the Seattle show to be a big party with lots of upbeat stuff.

I'm thinking a dedication of Given to Fly or I Am Mine or something of that sort. Long Road is a bit cliched and in my opinion would not set the tone of the evening properly nor be in the spirit of the triumph that his life is (no past tense for someone like Mandela).

Whatever they do, I wouldn't expect anything more than a small speech from Ed and a quick dedication.

But, what do I know? I'm probably looking at this all wrong.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

It seems like Ed likes to do Man of the Hour, or Come Back for a lot of these. I will say, when they opened the 2009 show with Long Road, it is still the single greatest live performance of any song I have ever seen. Sometimes I will play it back to back 7 or 8 times when I am driving around.

  • They opened night 1 in 2000 with it as well. It works nicely for an opener anywhere its played.
