What is the GA experience?

I'm about to have my first GA experience in Portland and am wondering what to expect...

How many people are in the GA area?
Is it impossible to see if you're short?

People say they can't leave to pee and come back - really? or just worried about losing their spot?
How much does it matter when you show up?

Why do you like most and least about GA tickets?

I've been GA for three shows this tour. Pick up my tickets at 6, enter venue at 630 and the farthest back ive been is about 5 people deep from the rail, in between stone and eddie, but closer to eddie than stone.

Only reason to show up and wait all day is if you're gunning for the rail or 2nd row IMO.

  • Thanks for the insight. I am attending my first GA in Portland and was curious how it would be. I figure this is one of my best chances to be front row so I guess I will be there early!

It's fun - be nice and joke with the people around you, take a piss well before the show, don't leave during it, watch out for the one or two assholes who will try to sneak in front of you at the last minute, and rock out!.

I'm short (5'1) and I need to be in the front row to be able to see. So I get there as early as possible.

My sister was able to get to the bathroom and back to her spot on the rail within the same song. I think it's easier to get back if you're one of the sides of the rail, cause you can follow the rail out and tell people you're coming back. That being said, I don't drink anything after doors open because I don't want to miss anything or have to fight my way through.

Best part of being in GA? The shared energy of the crowd and the band. The worst part? The jerks who try to elbow themselves in front of you... the drunker they get the more obnoxious it becomes.

If I could have scored (and afforded) GA for every show this tour, I would have been there bright and early every single time. IMO NOTHING in this world is better than being right in front of Mike in the pit.

    Have fun!

  • Ha, I am 6'3 so I am not too worried about seeing over people just would love to be close. How deep is the GA? Half of the floor or less?

depends on the arena. SD was way smaller then the LA pit.

half the floor or less is a good estimate. Being that tall as I am is a lot easier. Great sight lines north of 6 feet.

When you get to the GA line, make sure to check in with the key master. They'll let you know if you will be at the rail or not. If you are deemed worthy, you will get signed set lists, guitar pics and wine swigs.
  • What makes someone worthy?
  • go to the venue ,sing ,dance enjoy.dont think anything.GA is the best way to see PJ live
