Vinyl Prices

It looks like I've picked the worst time ever to start my PJ vinyl collection. Looking at the history, prices have literally doubled or tripled over the last 12 months. What's everyone's take on this? I know vinyl is now becoming more popular again, but is this a trend that is likely to continue upwards or is this a market bubble?

Good luck in your search! I doubt prices will come down, until they reissue more stuff, but there is no guarantee of that...
I would not expect prices on PJ albums to go down any time soon. Reissues would help drive the price down a little, but I wouldn't expect No Code, Yield, or Binaural to be reissued any time soon unless the band's relations with Sony rekindle.
However, when the tour ends, you may be able to find some better deals as people may be looking to unload some of their collection to help pay for their tour expenditures. Problem is, there are still way more people looking to buy than are selling.
Backspacer, lightning bolt - $20-30 (still in print)
Ten, vs, vitology - $40-60ish
Yield, no code, pj20 - $100-150ish
Binaural, riot act, avocado, lost dogs, rearview mirror, vault 3 - $200-300
Benny hall - $800-1200
Sevens and red lb is nuts now!
I garuntee the red lb will be like $100 in a few years just like white back spacer

Yeah, I'll say. Some shmuck on eBay is trying to sell the whole thing for $6000. Nuts.
im finally getting around to trying to complete my collection, and i actually just bought a no code off Discogs with a pretty banged up corner, but got it for $100 because of this. I figure, its in great shape otherwise, and i will listen to the SHIT out of no code.. im not trying to spend $250 on a sealed one.. someday i might want a perfect copy, hopefully a reissue makes this possible.
i have been selling an avocado in this current market, and altho i expect to get a fair amount for it, im also faced with people who back out of the purchase, because they realize they really cant spend $250 on a record... but hey, i have to sell it in this expensive black market, in order to purchase other records in the same inflated market.
sucks on both ends.. for someone like myself, who does not give a shit about collecting, but rather just wants to listen to them all the time.
I agree with this, that right now that are a lot more people interested in PJ vinyl because the band is so active, so you're dealing with a lot more competition, which is putting the vinyl at the higher end of its' price range.
But I also agree with this:
I started building my collection just after Avacado sold out, and each record's been in the same approximate price range since then. I'd say be patient (as possible) and wait for deals, which would be prices in the lower end of the range.
It will happen, too much money to be made...
It will also drop the price on originals.
i bought the Vs and Vitalogy reissues separately from one another (not the expensive box set), but i am hoping that No Code and Yield are in a over the top box together.. i will def get the "uber" version of those two.. such a great, creative period for the band, both musically, and visually.

I don't know if it's as definite as people think. It's not like PJ owns the masters to their recordings, if they did this would be a different story and the reissues would likely have already happened. Who's to say that Epic has any interest in reissuing albums that didn't sell that well to begin with. It's a financial risk for a label that isn't interested in taking financial risks. The albums that have been reissued were the bands best sellers, by far, so they can't be looked at the same way as the albums that followed.
I hope it happens as much as everyone else, I'm just not holding my breath.

its true. as i said, i just picked up a $100 no code on discogs.. everything is complete, in terms of what is supposed to be included with the Vinyl, but there is a hefty bend in the top right corner... a mint/sealed no code goes for well over $200-250 on ebay.. so for $100 i can live with the thrashed corner... i dont LIKE it, but i'll live.
now i have this fantasy that when my replacement LB shows up, it will be red, and i can trade it for a lost dogs.
Also, RIOT ACT AND AVOCADO ARE AWESOME ALBUMS.
Can't really properly express how much I disagree with the suggestion that you just get RVM.
totally agree!!!
riot act is possibly my fav to listen to in Vinyl. and i personally think Avocado sounds GREAT on wax.. so many people complain that it sucks. i feel like i have a pretty decent ear, and that album sounds great to me.
Well that's pretty subjective. I like RA more than Yield, Avacado and Backspacer.
