hmmm, i think there's more than ten must-have bootlegs, but here's 10 that i think are some of the best performances (and yes, one or two are shows i've been to)

Randall's Island II (September 29th, 1996) - this and Soldier Field 1995 get mentioned a lot, but unlike Soldier Field this is actually worth the hype. The bootleg is a great audience recording and the band are on fire. Not to mention Ed's amazing speech during 'Porch'.

Milan (June 22nd, 2000) - This boot is beautiful. Crowd mix makes the singalongs sound gorgeous, most notably Nothingman which is just haunting and powerful. I dare say the crowd sing it almost as well as Ed!

Atlantic City I (September 30th, 2005) - Again, an all-round great performance by the band. Long Road is beautiful with the crowd singing at the end, and Sad in particular sounds especially good.

Buenos Aires I (November 25th, 2005) - This is a must-have just because the crowd is unbelievable and the band feeds off it. They sing the guitar parts for god's sake! Eddie has them in the palm of his hand all night.

Las Vegas (July 6th, 2006) - Don't listen to the ones who diss this bootleg on the basis that Eddie was sick. Sure, there are a few screw-ups but Ed still sounds great and the show is a blast. Little Sister is so much fun, it ends unusually with Fortunate Son into Porch, and it's still the best version of Inside Job they've ever done.

Santa Barbara (July 13th, 2006) - My favourite acoustic set, its a great choice of songs and Eddie sounds wonderful. A great listen.

San Francisco III (July 18th, 2006) - Great setlist, great performance by the band. Ed sounds great all night, especially during Release. Memorable bootleg in my opinion. A constant listen for me.

Lisbon I (September 4th, 2006) - Both Lisbon shows are great, and the second night has the advantage of having the best version of the reworked Garden since they brought it back. But the first night's bootleg has better sound quality, and although the setlist is fairly standard, its the performance of the staple songs which makes it a standout. Just listen to Animal, the Yield run of Given to Fly, Do The Evolution and Wishlist, Small Town, Black etc. They sound as good as they ever have.

Zagreb (September 26th, 2006) - Flawless performance, best Severed Hand yet! Rarities such as All or None and Thin Air in the encore, amazing Porch too! Really great show for their first time in Croatia!

Honolulu (December 2nd, 2006) - Last show of a long tour, but Eddie in particular seems to be having a blast. He references the great crowd all night and is really talkative. His voice is a bit more raw because he's probably tired but the songs don't suffer from it. They just sound more rockin'!

So there ya go, that's my thoughts. As you can tell, i really like 2006 shows. I think they're the best band performances in years.

    Seattle 2000
    Soldier Field
    Grand Rapids 2006
    4/12/94 Boston
6/16/00 Katowice would be my Euro pick from 2000
Take your pick from SA tour. Any show, any crowd is amazing!!

many people who were at both Lisbon actually preferred the first night (slightly ;)) despite the more mundane setlist..something in the air..

and Zagreb is also a fav of the lucky people who attended.

Berlin 96, Seattle 2000 and Mansfield 03 (all of them) I particularly enjoy without the bias of having been there. I also dig San Diego 06.

Yeah, there was definitely something special in the air at Lisbon that night. The second show may be more powerful, but i don't think there's been a better version of Animal on the 2006 tour than from night one!

Berlin 96 is gorgeous, especially the Long Road opener.

I'm interested, why do you think so? I've never heard anyone mention that show. Were you there?
Of course I value your opinion. It's what makes you wrong and me right.

    I like these:

    Pinkpop 92
    Randall's 96
    Torino 06

And I don't feel right when you're gone away
  • I'm not educated enough on pre-2000 shows to properly comment, and some very noteworthy ones have already been mentioned so....

2000: [sort of starting with the better ones] Katowice II, St. Louis, Jones Beach III, Tampa, Chicago, Verona, Milan, Seattle II, Cardiff, San Diego, London II, Columbus, Philly I, Boise, Prague, Seattle I (hugely overlooked in my humble opinion, along with Boise), East Troy, Toronto, Jones Beach II, Pittsburgh.

2003: Buffalo, Irvine I, Missoula, Boston I and III, Lexington, Osaka, Sendai, Sydney II, Perth, Noblesville. For me, second tier, Uniondale, MSG II (not mentioning I 'cause everyone knows about it, and it's good, but there were better shows from that tour I think), Tokyo, Adelaide, Vancouver, Kansas City, Columbus, Holmdel, Mexico City I and III, State College, Philly, and Mt. View.

2005: Ottawa, Calgary, Philly. Otherwise London, Kitchener, Halifax, Winnipeg, A.C. II, and Gorge (a bit shakey at times, but good atmosphere and a long performance). Also B.A. I.

2006: Grand Rapids, San Diego, Portland, Gorge I, Reading, Pistoia, Prague, Adelaide I. Second tier: Toronto II, Boston (II I think), Washington D.C., Gorge II, Torino, Honolulu.
    05/30/03 Van, 09/01/05 Gorge, 09/02/05 Van, 09/04/05 Cal, 09/05/05 Ed, 09/07/05 S'toon, 09/08/05 'Peg, 07/22&23/06 Gorge, 06/14/08 'Roo, 08/08/09 Cal, 09/21/11 Cal, 09/23/11 Ed, 12/02/13 Cal

these will be 'must have' as they wont be officially released! :( :( :(
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

No, I wasn't there... welll it was my first PJ boot, so that could be why I like it so much, but theres just something in the air that catches my attention.
I also love the set, In My Tree, Light Years, Present Tense etc.. The set is very eccentric, not too many really famous songs, not even Alive or Even Flow.
    You should check it out.
