Is Detroit the new South?

WTH?

See, I have not allowed myself to visit the Pit as often this summer as I was depressed from nursing a terminally ill sister and being depressed that Pearl Jam/Eddie Vedder can't find Detroit/Michigan on their maps this year. But I still love em, I do. But I'm just wondering, did Detroit do something wrong in 2006? Why didn't they come here?

I need my PJ/EV fix now more than ever.

If there is a big tour next year, Detroit will be on it. For PJ, a lot of cities did not get shows, Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc. And for EV solo, philly did not get a show which I was surprised about. I am sure PJ sill be in Detroit again. Ed did say that he has to get the new PJ albulm finished.

Whitepants, I feel your pain! I ended up going to WPB & Tampa for PJ. We just got back from DC yesterday. I was hoping they would be a little closer to home too.

I remember the radiohead story but saying that there isn't a good venue in detroit is beyond ridiculous.

  • Pearl Jam just has weird touring patterns now. Not sure why they didn't play the south in 2006 and not sure why they didn't play the midwest in 2008. At least the 2008 tour was a small tour and not a full on tour for a record.

My aunt lives up in Detroit it's pretty rough. They have a lot of problems up there. Parts of Detroit made the ghetto's in Atlanta, Birmingham, and Montgomery look like a day at the beach. Most of the south is pretty safe just the really big cities like Atlanta and Miami have crime problems. But that's anywhere in the U.S. Surprised Pearl Jam doesn't play the arena in Auburn Hills were the Pistons play that's a pretty nice arena.

They do play at Auburn Hills, I've seen them there twice. I'd prefer they stop playing out in the sticks though. That being said Pearl Jam always plays detroit and used to do at least 2 shows in the area. Ed skipped it solo, that's all. Like someone else said, just go to Chicago or Toronto. It's worth the travel.
I have noticed however that Liam Finn is not coming to Detroit on his own tour after and I'm not sure if he ever has. Someone should tell Liam he shouldn't be skipping Detroit Rock City.

I couldn't "just" go to Chicago or Toronto, I would have if it could. Week night shows 4 hour drives away did not fit into my tight depressing schedule. It's just a bad summer, that's all, and I could have really used some PJ/EV to cheer me up in my hometown. Hell, Eddie could have done Ann Arbor, that's exactly where I live - Morrisey did it in April.

Sorry to hear that, I wasn't really addressing you personally or anything, just saying in general. I've had to miss them before, I know how it feels. They'll make it up to you in the future, trust me.
Hope things get better for you.
