  • Yeah-I'd like to do the same but how do you stay hydrated and not have to use the honey buckets every hour or so? It's gonna be hot! I've been worrying about this for weeks. And if we move but have a friend stay in place, is it gonna be possible to get back thru the crowd to that spot?

What time are you lining up outside to try to get up front?
...And he who forgets will be destined to remember.

...I swear I never took it for granted. Just thought of it now.

Is anyone else bringing an 8'4", 460 lb friend who can do the splits while their partner scurries off to heed nature's calling?

after 8 hours of getting crushed on the front fence you'll have to piss eventually. Unless you do a Dumb and Dumber and piss in your pants....or maybe through the fence onto security....or maybe a catheder of some sort.

I would say if you can be there by Kings of Leon you'd be in a decent place.

but then you'll miss the pre-mmj message pit meetup!

Speedy meet us at the pit meetup I am planning on a farther back show myself.

I'm not going, but the Uro in Urohawk stands for urologist which is what I do for a living. I thought it would be funny.

I'll see depending what the crowd is like the 2 days before..

only festival i stayed in place all day was Southside and that's only because I was there with just 1 person ( instead of the usual bunch) and had nothing else to do or nothing to see on the 1 other stage. (and Venice, but you had to to be in the front pit as they were handing out wristband to the x first few in the morning).
All other festivals (and I got at the barrier at all of them..well, 2nd row only in Madrid), I didn't venture in the front pit until at the very earliest 4-5 hours before PJ hit the stage...most far less than that, couple of hours (means still having to be there for MMJ :(..wish they'd switched them with KOL))...I'm good at that shit ;)

If I dont get a Vic ticket(its not looking good), then I might go to Lolla and try to get up front just because I would feel like I would need something extra special for my PJ show. If I can't do the Vic, then I might as well do front row.

And I am sorry if I do that because I am 6'5. But it might be my one and only chance to see PJ front row.
  • LedZepFanLedZepFan Posts: 1,009
shit is it really necessary to be there that long to get up close? i was just planning on going to MMJ a bit early and hanging out straight through PJ's set...that would be long enough as it is!
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

I am going right to the front at lolla and not moving at 11:00am . no beer , no water, no piss break, 9 str8 hours .

that sounds fun! you will be so dehydrated and pisssy full and irritated i highly doubt that pj will be pleasurable for you.

worst i ever did was back at chicago 95....on the field up front by about 430-5....stayed there....or pushed around there until almost midnight. then again i was young and stupid, not drinking water or beer, standing in the beating sun in the pit...i couldnt do that now adays....and we saw SOO many people...especially smaller people and girls being literally rescued during the show.

you need to drink water man...at least do that...otherwise youll be pulled out from your front row spot before pj even hits the stage because you passed out due to dehydration
Seems that needlessly it's getting harder
To find an approach and a way to live
Are we getting something out of this
    all-encompassing trip?

As much as I like MMJ I wish that Modest Mouse was playing the same stage as PJ. So I could just hang out from KOL on. I have seen MMJ a few times opening for PJ and never seen Modest Mouse so I will have to risk coming back to the PJ crowd after Modest Mouse. ;(

  • Go see Modest Mouse, great show.....

I would like to be front row but I wouldn't spend over 8 hours waiting.....fuck that PJ or not. The only band I maybe would do that for is Alice in Chains IF (and thats a big IF) Layne was still alive.

Being upfront isn't worth a trip to the hospital. Being dehydrated is the WORSE pain I have ever felt. I was in basketball camp and the coach's wouldn't let me get a drink after playing outside in 90 degree weather. So when I got in my moms car I had a pounding headache and very mixed nausea in my stomach. She ran to the store to get Advil for me and water. Well by the time she came out I threw up about 4 times all this stomach acid and other nasty stuff.

So then I went to the hospital and had to have 6 bags of stuff (sodium and water) IV'ed into me. Not to mention I still had my headache up until the last hour in the hospital. Then once that left once I stood up I could feel all the fluid in my brain shift, it was weird shit. THEN after the first time I stood up whenever I would bend my head to the left I would get a sharp pain in the back of my head which did not feel good at all.

So now I'm asking all you crazy fans why seeing PJ would ever be worth 5 hours in a hospital and sharp pains for a month in the back of your head? By the time PJ hit the stage (if you are still able to stand) you wouldn't have fun.....believe me. Even if they played a set of all rare kick ass songs, you still wouldn't have fun.

My suggestion for bursting bladders...Depends, diapers. Hey, it worked for the astro chick, it'll work for a PJ festival.

In the late seventies, I lost my front row spot at a fleetwood mac concert (general admission) because I had to go get a drink of water :(

if you think you can go without water in august, the paramedics will be taking you away. it sucks to be human, doesn't it?

I wont be, Ill be seeing Modest Mouse on the other side of the park most likely, though I wouldnt mind seeing MMJ with an orchestra, but I guess I will blame the Lolla organizers for that scheduling situation. Anyways, Ive seen Pearl Jam plently before, and plan on seeing them again, But right now the weather for Sunday is in the upper 80's, and with all that would go into trying to get right up front, as cool as it would be, isnt worth it I dont think. Hopefully I wont be too far back though.

If its anything like the old out of control mosh pit days you might find a warm feeling down the back of your leg. I, uh, don't really miss those days.
  • im going to be doing something similar to this..we'll definitely be at PJ's stage all day but im sure we'll move around eventually. i just want to have decent seats

but to others under 21 that arent going...how easy do you think it will be to get alcohol into the show? i see the "2 factory sealed water bottles" thing...do you think we could fill 2 water bottles with rum and get away with it? also, do you think smoking will be difficult at this festival?

im not trying to get shitfaced but it would be cool to have an nice buzz going when pj gets up there
Any new realizations would have to wait until he had more time. More time.

I'm heading straight for up front, bringing a water bottle, but I know I'm going to have to go to the bathroom eventually, so I'll lose my spot. :( But I'm going to try to stay as close as I can. My 10c number isn't that high, so this may be my only chance...
