Heinz closes Leamington plant, 740 people out of work

Worthington Cylinders lays off more than 100 in Tilbury

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/w ... -1.2424903

My neck of the world just got rocked this week with over a 1000 job losses ... Worthington Cylinder is a plant my wife used to work at, hard working folks they are ... with so many job losses it will be tough for the economy to absorb them, and those who find jobs it will be much lower paying wages. I think it is truly a race to the bottom. No doubt in my mind that the standard of living is being lowered and the middle class will soon disappear.

That's what they've been trying to do all over the world, since the 2008 financial crisis broke out: Elimination of the middle class and expansion of the gap between the rich and the poor. Cruel bastards!

Loss of jobs and it's impact on local economy is devastating. Very sorry to hear about this, lukin2006.

It's the job creators that are doing this.
it's not a knock... because, in truth, they ARE creating jobs... in China... in India... in Viet Nam.
    ...
Those job creators should get credit, where credit is due.

It might as well be the workers, right?

Is it the hiring of the CEO from BK the real reason? From what I understand ketchup from the Heinz in Leamingtom was not used by Mc Donald's or is this a trickle down effect? Mc Donald's uses a shit load of ketchup though, I guess you got to mask the taste of the food somehow ... However I can't stand the taste of ketchup myself.

Personally I think the high Canadian dollar, these horrible trade agreements, and it is definitely more costly to do business in Canada than China.

Actually, they should take the credit for shipping the jobs overseas... bring down their operating costs... which equates to higher profits... that are reflected in higher stock value.
It all depends of where you sit... up in the 1%... it's fucking great because the value of your portfolio goes up... for the rest of us 99%ers... it means unemployment lines and minimum wage career opportunities at the local Burger King.
The 'Job Creators' that so many in the 99% love so dearly... are really cornholing us and getting paid to do so.

I have read that. I have also read it's not profitable because the Chinese are shipping over lower priced cylinders. Wage wise we can't and never will be able to compete with countries like that. It's time for tariffs on goods coming from these countries with the money to go into training and education of displaced employees ... People want these goods it's time to pay a price.

I know you're being sarcastic, but there are tax breaks for outsourcing jobs. Any greedy dumbfuck CEO can stop American production to rake in the big profits of cheap labor and bigger tax cuts. Taking credit for being a corphole is hardly admirable. The 1% is gonna bring this country to its knees, but they'll all be living big in the South Seas by then.

Truth here. Why should jobs lost in America be more important than jobs created in China. Are Americans more deserving? I'd say a good argument could be made that people in these other countries need the jobs worse. After all, we have free healthcare for all now.

maybe it could become an independent employee owned deal? Hopeful they can figure something out. But you are spot on about reliance on corporate. Mistake to do so.
