Hey folks,
Wanted to share a tune from my latest project, Water Landing. We're a 3 piece band from Las Vegas, incorporating elements of folk, punk, classic and modern rock into our sound. We've been playing together in our current lineup for a couple of years now, although two of us have been playing together in bands for about 12. We're now getting to the point of recording some demos and looking to play some gigs later this year, hopefully put out a full length sometime next year. Here's a demo of one of our newer tunes entitled "Rocket Ship".

I'd appreciate any comments/feedback. You can also check out our FB page, although there's not much on there now. We'll hopefully have some gig dates and additional content up in the next few weeks. THANKS!

Thanks! We recorded drums and the main rhythm guitar track together, then tracked the bass, vocals, and one or two more guitar parts afterwards. I actually ended up playing bass on this song too because our bass/keyboard player had an injury at the time.

Yeah - that's the plan when we get ready to do a full on recording. I had a full studio set-up a few years back, but had to sell most of it off when I was between jobs. I ended up doing this with a little 4-pc. kit and only a kick drum mic and an overhead.
Really? Considering that, you covered a lot of bases!

Thanks! Yeah, I had the kick drum mic about a foot in front of the front head, and the overhead about 3 feet above the kit. I only had a kick, snare, rack tom, mounted tom + hi-hats and a crash/ride cymbal, and everything was kind of even in terms of height, so we made it work.
I've played some big kits with lots of cymbals in my days, but I've found that limiting your resources can actually increase your creativity. You have to learn how to hit less stuff in more ways!
Been a few months since I posted in this thread, but things are going great for Water Landing! We've played some gigs in Las Vegas this month, and have several more in the works. Our next one is Friday, Feb. 28th for those in/around Vegas who can make it out. See the flyer below for details!
