I didn't. I thought about this when hearing of the recent devastating typhoon in the Philippines. Here's the answer.

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

  • I'm pretty sure there is no difference. Just that if your in Asia, they are typhoons. In the state's, they are hurricanes.

In Cantonese dai fung means big wind.

I am pretty sure typhoon is the translation of that.

but yeah they are one and the same.

getting a lot of wind and rain here in Hong Kong now. November is awfully late for still getting a typhoon.

surprised it made news though. Philippines gets rocked by many typhoons and barely a mention it seems.
