What's good in your local scene?

Hello, music lovers! Over the last few years, I've gotten a lot more involved with my local music scene after a long time away from it. I'm going to include a few YouTube / Bandcamp links to some of my favorite stuff (Portland, ME by the way), but I'm always curious about the music happening in other local scenes.

What have you got going on?

Anna Lombard - All For You - this is a live version from her album release because she just DESTROYS it. Sound gets a bit distorted in the second half, but stick with it!
Spose - All R's - you might know him for "I'm Awesome", but dude is so good.
Rustic Overtones - Rock Like War - an older song, but RO is one of the longest running & most successful bands around Maine.

There's so much more in this town. For the last two links, I'm going to send you to projects I'm involved in (if that's okay). The first is a compilation album I put together to benefit our local children's hospital. It's all local folks doing songs about their kids - not kid songs, but more songs for parents. Sweet Nora and Elea's Lullaby would be the two I'd ask you to check out if you want a starting point. IF you want to order (not asking you to, just want you to hear the music), I'd be happy to do a 2 for 1 if you just let me know.

Second is a weekly radio show I host where I have a local band in each week to play a live set. The show I'm linking to is a band called KGFREEZE, but I'd encourage you to check out others. I'm not a great interviewer, but that's not the point of the show. :)

  • Rustic Overtones are the shit. I've seen them 10 or 12 times live and they are great. They do an awesome cover of Sledgehammer. (still not sure why they're not "bigger"). I would include The Mallett Brothers in the "local" discussion. They play nationally, but they have really good music and are from Portland as well.
it's a fragile thing, this life we lead.

  • Ha! The Mallet Brothers Band are really good. I immediately regretted my initial post because I know there are SO many I didn't include. Kurt Baker, Gunther Brown/Pete Dubuc, Clubber Lang, Rural Ghosts, Sara Hallie Richardson, Twisted Roots, 6gig, Whitcomb, Zach Jones... Maine has such a great scene.

Rustic's Sledgehammer is really good, I think I saw them do it at their first reunion show back whenever. I STILL remember trying to buy their first CD at Bull Moose and being told it was already sold out and waiting on a reprint.

I really like that Tricorn track!

So much good in Los Angeles. You can't throw a rock without hitting a solid band:

Irontom: Alain Johannes is producing the f*ck out of these guys.

The Record Company: Get your rocking blues on, baby.
"I'm here to see Pearl Jam."- Bono

...signed...the token black Pearl Jam fan.
