  • I started with 'Rated R' and that sealed the deal for me! The rest is just fantastic.

As far as where to start...you can't go wrong with any of their albums.

As far as getting the music...lately I've been addicted to searching online via my local County library system for music I don't have, and placing holds on them.

If your closest branch doesn't have all you want when you go in person (they won't), then see if you can search online through all their branches (if you live in a big city/county this will be easier), and you may be able to place them on hold and they send the cd to your chosen branch.

If your city or county system doesn't have all you want (they won't), then see if there is a State library search. I've got cd's coming to me from all over California every week! I make one trip every weekend to pick-up, drop-off.

It's great. And it's legal and safe (no viruses)...unlike the good old days of Napster, and searching for Megaupload links via blogs. I've never got into the torrent thing by the way.

There is just too much good music in the world to honestly think someone can have the time and money to afford to buy it all!

But after I discover a favorite new band, I always end up spending plenty of loot going to see them live, or buying their latest release (...Like Clockwork for example!!!). And it's money well spent!
19 Pearl Jam shows and still searching for Deep!
    1998 (2) - East Lansing & Auburn Hills; 2000 (2) - Tampa & Noblesville; 2003 (2) - Lexington & Noblesville; 2006 (1) - Cincinnati; 2007 (1) - Chicago (Lollapalooza); 2008 (Ed in Milwaukee); 2009 (1) - Chicago; 2010 (1) - Noblesville; 2013 (3) - San Diego & Los Angeles I & II; 2016 (Temple of the Dog in Los Angeles); 2017 (Ed at Ohana in Dana Point);
    2021 (3) - Dana Point I, II & III; 2022 (3) - San Diego & Los Angeles I & II; 2025 - Southern U.S. Tour Please!
  • My starting point was Lullabies to Paralyze. From there I went on with
    - the first album / Queens of the Stone Age
    - Songs for the Deaf
    - Era Vulgaris
    - Rated R
    and Like Clockwork.

They also have made an MTV unplugged session, which I love, might not be everybody's thing though. It is out there somewhere for download, and I even have it on a shitty bootleg vinyl. Here's youtube videos of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SMMRTCR ... 1D2BE5AAEC
Their DVD "Over the years and through the woods" is pretty good too! Here's the full movie on youtube 8-)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NL9Oqupjyg ... There is a great version of This Lullaby in there, and a spectacular one of You Can't Quit Me, Baby.

There is also a side project by Josh Homme named Desert sessions. Some of the songs who found their place on the studio albums are to be found on these albums too, in slightly different versions. I think for the Desert sessions, the musicians just meet, jam and record. Pretty good stuff, but I don't like all of them. My fave is 5/6, especially Black Anvil Ego (here's a song from it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJiBRzd3IUg) and number 9/10.

As I said before, enjoy the ride :D  I think I crank some qotsa right now ...

I got into qotsa through Them Crooked Vultures. I'd heard that Dave Grohl started a band with JPJ and some guy Josh Homme. They performed at ACL the year Pearl Jam headlined, so I checked it out. After that I saw queens when they were on Conan for the 1st reissue, so I started there. That record is bonkers amazing!! Now they're in my top bands.

If you can find them, check out the Desert Sessions to. There are 10 volumes of the Desert Sessions. They are just a series of EP's that Josh Homme recorded with various musicians starting in 1997. I have the complete collection and I love them. Lots of fantastic music. If you are a vinyl listener they are very expensive to get the original pressings. Especially Volumes 1&2. But the were re-released a few years ago on vinyl, so the price on the reissues arent to bad, I dont believe. And they are available on cd to.

The 1st time I heard QOTSA was also the 1st time I saw them in concert. Way back in 1997 in Portland Oregon. I was a huge Kyuss fan, so I knew who QOTSA was. One of my absoulte favorite bands. Their 1st 3 albums are master pieces in my opinion... Hope you enjoy!!!
