Booking hotel for Dallas show as well now...any recommendations for hotels close to the venue?
I'll ride the wave, where it takes me...

  • I ended up getting the Adolphus through Hotwire for less than $90 all in. It is just about in the center of the downtown area and Google maps says it is a 20 min walk to the arena.

Does anyone know if it is reasonably safe to walk from the arena to the center of downtown late on a Friday night?

I don't spend much time downtown lately, so I don't have too much info to base this on, but I wouldn't do it personally.

I am also heading to OKC on Saturday!

I also learned that there is light rail from the arena that drops off 2 blocks from the Adolphus. I am thinking of taking that as I am sure a taxi is hard to locate after the show.

Downtown is perfectly fine and very convenient for a concert. My office is down there so I've spent a lot of time in the area.

The Adolphus is just a few blocks from the light rail station. You can take the green line to victory plaza and that will drop you off right in front of the arena. If you plan to go to the preparty, the House of Blues is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel.

From HOB, you can just walk another 5-10 minutes to the arena so you might only need to take the light rail after the concert (After the show, they will have 3 lines running - The ones that say Parker Road, Downtown Garland, or Buckner will pass through Ackerd station close to the hotel) Feel free to PM me if you need help with anything before or while you are in town!

Nice! That's about 2 blocks from my office and close to the light rail.

  • Closest hotel to American Airlines Center is the 'W', but it is pricey. Check out the Hyatt House on 2914 Harry Hines. It is walking distance to the AAC and the Uptown area but is kind of off the radar.

There are probably cheap hotel options off of I-35 (Stemmons Frwy), but there's not much that you can walk to from those places. You're either committed to multiple cab rides or renting a car.

Anything in the Uptown/Downtown area is an easy and cheap cab ride to the AAC. Downtown Dallas nightlife leaves a bit to be desired, so if you're looking for something to do before/after the show I suggest Uptown or Deep Ellum. (Deep Ellum has far fewer yuppee types.)

Here are hotels that are reasonable proximity to AAC (in order of closest to furthest):
    - Hyatt House
    - Fairmont (usually has reasonable specials)
    - SpringHill Suites (close to JFK stuff)
    - The Stoneleigh (historic hotel, close to Uptown area)
    - Adolphus (neat historic hotel)
    - Magnolia (has neon Pegasus on top; also historic hotel)
    - Westin Dallas (close to Uptown and convenient to DART light rail)
    - Sheraton Dallas (close to Uptown and convenient to DART light rail)
    - NYLO SouthSide (further but has bars/restaurants in close proximity)
    - Hotel Belmont (further from AAC but closer to Bishop Arts District)
