I guess that's what India's leaders have in mind for their starving masses by pumping millions into this project:

India's space ambition takes off
India's intergalactic ambitions will take a further step forward this month when its unmanned mars orbiter blasts off on a nine month voyage to the red planet.
The mission is a showcase for India's engineering prowess and an opportunity to put them in the global running for space exploration.
But when a country is still home to millions of people in extreme poverty, why do they feel the need to explore other worlds?

Notwithstanding, they are still subject to extreme poverty--not due to any fault of their own, but merely through being vicitims of circumstance--they are born into it.
It's easy to point a finger and say "hey they're exploring outer space and yet, they have starving people".
United States does/did it too.
We all do it individually too.
We easily come up with money to pay our monthly internet bills and our pearl jam memberships, while there's people within a 100-mile radius who couldn't pay for supper tonight.
My point?

Off subject here but I totally dig your avatar, Pro. It looks like JR just saw God!
To just call it a waste of money that could be better spent is very shortsighted. I can think of far more egregious ways countries are wasting money than on things like this.
The thing is... this is the longest avatar I have used here and it's almost 12 months old.... to the date Larry passed on November 23rd of last year. I am not a soap fan... it was only JR caught my eye at my young age and I ended up watching every episode of Dallas 1970s, 1980s and the re-runs in the 1990s
