What Is It With Pendulum?

Been watching the YouTube and, every single time, the tweets from TwoFeetThick about PJ's setlists in this Lightning Bolt Tour. I counted that more than 5 times Pendulum was used as opening.

I love this song. But, is there any special thing about this one that it becomes constant opening in PJ concert now? (Not that I'm complaining. I'll eat any song they throw, when they have a chance to do gig in Jakarta, Indonesia someday soon :) )
Dear Pearl Jam, please come & play Jakarta, Indonesia

Hmmmm, not too sure... maybe they feel it's the only place it can go right now. Or maybe they wanted to do something completely different this tour... you know? Everyone was always so interested on guessing which song was first... well, now we know.
It is a killer song live... and now, we get to try and predict the 2nd song! :D The setlists have been pretty great so far, looking forward to the second half of this leg, or is it the second leg coming up after Voodoo?

Anyhow, Pendulum is Killer! I mean really, Mike plays it using a bow!

GREAT OPENER. it's also a nice mix to have an opener be a prequel to another opener. If it ever goes mid-set, I'd love to see it go before Immortality.

  • Got a feeling this will be one that's played to exhaustion on this tour and then very rarely again

    yep

they are opening with it every night because it is a strong track from a new record they are touring behind and they most likely don't see a place for it in the setlist outside of as an opener.
i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status

And then in 5 years it will be the most sought after opener....
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I agree. but LBC is a much better song and should be played more!
  • With all the dark stage and dim light, I know it must be giving the audience the chill. Even a mystique kind of feeling ;)
I saw the latest photo of Eddie singing Pendulum. All shadow and two stage light high above him. Awesome!

my guess is just them trying out something new. basically pendulum is the new intro music, and now all the mystery is with the 2nd song. I wasn't sure about it at first, but saw it 2 shows in a row and it is badass live as the opener and really sets up song #2. i was also pretty fine with getting hard to imagine and release as the 2nd songs in those shows. i'm sure next tour it will go into the mix with the other openers and come out every 6 or 7 shows.

  • easy left me long ago.:clap::clap:

will be singing along (can't sing so screeching will have to do) in Vancouver and Seattle.

LBC opened my first show. Why go, Interstellar / corduroy, and then Release.

Would be ok with a repeat of Pendulum at the Van/Sea shows. At least should get the "double opener " two fer deal eh? ;)

It's not good enough to crack that level. I can see it opening an encore when they finally figure out they should open encore 1 with a traditional opener, so we'll hear more of these gems.

I don't know anyone who thinks/says "I've heard (Release, Long Road, Can't Keep, etc.) too much already"
  • they keep opening with this every show, wonder if they will do that out west too? also they keep closing the main setlist or the end of encore 1, seems every show with porch. saw them 3 times out east they played porch all 3 times, ended the main set 2 time with it, and end of encore 1 time, and if they dont end with that in the first encore or first set part, they seem to end then with rearviewmirror everytime
  • I keep hearing people talk about opening with Pendulum and my first show on this tour isn't until Portland, so I haven't experienced it live yet. But it's like Pavlov's dogs now. Every time Pendulum hits my ears I get all kinds of excited as if the show is about to start!

I saw Sigur Ros this year as well, and their lead plays his guitar with a bow quite a bit. It's an epic sound and very dramatic display. It will be great to see Mike do this also! :D
  • Consider it the walk-on music.

Because you still could get Release, Long Road, Of The Girl, Sometimes or any other traditional opener after it.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do

they open this way so keep up and dont get blow from the begging
the sets are 3 hours every night,so they need to start slow and not give all from first songs, and have energy for the rest of the show.same as encore one,so they can sit for almost half encore and dont get tired right away.
he said he even do some yoga and stretching so he be in shape

Thanks! That's some good info. I mean they have been playing for 23 years, I suppose they do get tired ;)
