Since this arena is on the UVA campus can you buy beer? I know that for shows at Penn State you can't buy beer. Anyone have knowledge if beer is sold during concerts?

  • Beer is definitely sold at JPJ for non university related events (such as this show).

In another thread someone emailed the venue and it was confirmed that for this show there will be beer(no reply to the rumor of only 2 beers per ticket though).
"Populated with every reject and cutthroat from Bombay to Calcutta. It's worse than Detroit."
  • Went to JPJ last year for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. They limited each individual to 4 beer purchases, and could only buy 2 at a time. They also closed the beer concessions very early in the show. Not sure if we're looking at more of the same tomorrow, but have to think so. Great size arena for a PJ show, but might want to have a few extra in the parking lot.
  • Also, leave 15-20 extra minutes to get your wrist band on your way in. Charlottesville is a great town, and they have some great places to eat and drink before the show. But the entry process and ID validation took quite awhile last year.

Just read a bunch of reviews on yelp and determined that crappy beers will be sold for about $8.00 per. I was shocked the first time we went to Penn State and found out you could not buy a beer at a Pearl Jam concert. Glad to know that the folks down at UVA have better faith in people to make their own decisions and that responsible drinking is their policy.

Are you talking about the arena specifically? Or do you need a wristband in local bars as well?
  • Arena only, and I can confirm the outrageous price for one beer.

I don't remember the price, but I do remember that at Bruce and DMB they were selling Star Hill which is a local beer. I don't love it, but it tastes great at a show and compared to the Bud Light.

They give you a wristband. When you've reached your limit just rip it off an get carded again.
