Philly 10/22 Betterman = Best?

I was just listening to that performance and damn, I've never heard them jam so hard on that tune. Is this a regular thing these days, or was that a charged up one time dealio?

I was thinking on this as well- Always loved hearing this but that particular jam around the 4 min mark and tag were incredible- I'm likely biased though

I've had enough, said enough, felt enough. I'm fine, still in it.
That show had the best everything.

If you had said MSG 2 1998, you would have been correct.
As unique as Mansfield I 2008?
I wasn't there, so how would I know

I guess that's my point with these things, people only consider the shows they've been to.
The better man from the garden night 2 in 98 is the best of all time (I've been to all the garden shows). I'd be curious to hear from others who were at all.
And the single best moment of any PJ concert I've ever been to was during better man in Mansfield 2008.
"I need your strength for me to be strong...I need your love to feel loved"
And that's exactly why I wrote "for me"

Listening to it now. STRONG crowd singing at the beginning, after which is crazy extended applause. What happened?
At the 5:00 mark, and it's pretty damn solid thus far. The crowd starting to clap to rhythm.
"Save it for Later" tag, and great Eddie wail. Holy crap.
Now Mike is going nuts. And at 7:20 it's a wrap. Thanks for introducing me to that one

Hard to describe what happened. It was just COMPLETELY spontaneous by the crowd...it was like a sea of applause that is hard to explain. At its height, the crowd was screaming at the top of its lungs and banging their seats as hard as they could. The look and surprise by Ed were priceless. He turns to Stone and they look at each other like, "what the ____ is happening here?" It was so loud, he had no choice but to wait for the crowd to stop. He wouldn't have been able to be heard even with a microphone.
I'm not exaggerating when I say the bootleg does that moment zero justice. You just had to be there.
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
I believe it. I appreciate the explanation.
I agree with this one. Best version I've seen live out of about 15 or so. Nice extended Save it for Later tag from what I remember and good audience singalong.
The 10/22/13 one mentioned in original post is near the top of my list for versions of it though. Definitely thought that was good version seeing it in real time at show and seemed a different, a little better than other versions, and seemed less played out.
I wholeheartedly agree with you.
I turned To my buddy right after they finished Betterman in Hartford on Friday and immediately told him it was hands-down, the best version of that tune I've ever heard. (Seen it 9 times...... Thanks stat tracker!)
That song, and whole night were something special.
Yes, except that Mansfield 1 2008 had the best Betterman.
It was amazing. Hartford was awesome, but nothing tops Mansfield 1 for Betterman. We were pounding on the seats so hard, it sounded like a train was rolling through. And I agree with you completely, the bootleg does not do it justice. It was so loud, so spontaneous, so JOYOUS -- there are no words for it. Frankly, I was kind of disappointed that the NY Betterman was included in PJ20 instead of Mansfield 2008 -- Mansfield deserved that spot. [And I'm not interested in the NY-Boston rivalry. I reside in NJ but consider Seattle to be my home, so I don't have a dog in that fight.]
