Sorry, I tried but I couldn't keep it to just 5
These are all fantastic records:
1. Joseph Arthur - The Ballad of Boogie Christ (Acts 1 & 2)
2. Foy Vance - Joy of Nothing
3. Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt
4. SeBADoh - Defend Yourself
5. Portugal. The Man – Evil Friends
...but these are too good not to mention:
6. Arbouretum - Coming Out of the Fog
7. Tired Pony - The Ghost of the Mountain
8. Junip - Junip
9. Clutch - Earth Rocker
10. Mark Lanegan & Duke Garwood – Black Pudding
Very nice list. Junip and Portugal could easily be on my list again if pressed to recreate it. I didn't know Mark Lanegan had a new record outside of his covers record.
Headstones- Love & Fury
Queens of the Stone Age- Like Clockwork
Jason Isbell- Southeastern
Pearl Jam- Lightning Bolt
Frank Turner- Tape Deck Heart
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."
In no particular order:
Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt
White Denim - Corsicana Lemonade
Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk - Dirty Word
Biffy Clyro - Opposites
Tedeschi Trucks Band - Made Up Mind
1. QOTSA -- ...Like Clockwork
2/3 Pearl Jam -- Lightning Bolt
2/3 The National -- Trouble Will Find Me
4. Kurt Vile -- Wakin' on a Pretty Daze
5. Arcade Fire -- Reflektor
These five have been the soundtracks to my 2013. ...Like Clockwork blew my mind from listen one and has since been permanently embedded in my playlist. I'm still peeling back layers from that onion (and what a good onion it is). As much as I try to strip my bias, Lightning Bolt is sheer awesomeness. Ed's voice is top notch and the fellas continue to rewrite the script twenty three years into the game. TWFM is the steady creeper of the bunch. I kept trying to make is wear High Violet's shoes which just didn't fit. It continues to get better and better after 15+ listens. Their performance in Atlanta was one of if not the best shows I saw in 2013. Kurt Vile staked his claim early in the year. His album gathered dust by late summer but has recently provided the perfect sounds to accompany the lethargic winter weather. Reflektor lived up to the hype. It's danceable, expansive and terrific. All in all, another good year for music (any year that includes a new Pearl Jam album is a good year :ugeek: ).

"FF, I've heard the droning about the Sawx being the baby dolls. Yeah, I get it, you guys invented baseball and suffered forever. I get it." -JearlPam0925
Loads of people have raved about the new QOTSA album.
I find it boring.
It took a while to grow on me but after giving it pretty constant attention for a couple weeks, I find it brilliant. If I Had a Tail and Smooth Sailing are about as good of songs as they've ever released in my opinion.
1. Lorde - Pure Heroine
2. Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt
3. Kings of Leon - Mechanical Bull
4. Kanye West - Yeezus
5. Gin Wigmore - Gravel and Wine (I think released in 2013 in US)
Hard to put them in order, but something like this:
01 The National -- Trouble Will Find Me
02 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds -- Push the Sky Away
03 Phosphorescent -- Muchacho
04 Frank Turner -- Tape Deck Heart
05 Frightened Rabbit -- Pedestrian Verse
I have to add these as well:
Queens of the Stone Age -- Like Clockwork
Savages -- Silence Yourself
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club -- Specter at the Feast
Can't narrow it down to just 5. Pretty much in order but it depends on the day.
Queens of the Stone Age – ...Like Clockwork
The National – Trouble Will Find Me
Manic Street Preachers – Rewind the Film
Pearl Jam – Lightning Bolt
David Bowie – The Next Day
Clutch – Earth Rocker
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Specter at the Feast
Nine Inch Nails – Hesitation Marks
Neil Young – Live at the Cellar Door
Kings of Leon – Mechanical Bull
Rather lengthy write up on a few of mine. It started out as a blog post regarding my favorite albums but all my friends and contributors decided to chime in, hope you enjoy. There's a pretty common thread with a few albums that have been mentioned here quite a bit.
1. Lorde - Pure Heroine
2. Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt
3. Kings of Leon - Mechanical Bull
4. Kanye West - Yeezus
