Metal structure above stage in Philly

Question for band or anyone: What was that structure above the stage during the show in Philly (I'll presume its above the stage in all shows this tour, but not sure). Was it a welding art project from a friend of the band. I want to build a minature version. If you know anything about it please speak (err...type).

    It's a great question. Has been at all the shows since London and Wrigley. No idea what it is supposed to be. Have heard both "its a bird!" and "its a crown of thorns!" tossed around as theories.

    Having been at Wrigley and Philly the thing got more use in Chicago. It actually "soared" more in Chicago....wings flapped and it tilted. I didn't see much movement with it at Philly.

    I'll go with bird in Chicago and piece of art in Philly

    It "flapped" its wings during given to fly in Brooklyn.

    I heard that it was old bicycle parts, but not too sure. I'm sure there are pics somewhere online...

    To me it looks like it's pieced together from metal scraps and pipes. ^ Or old bike parts would also make sense.

    I would like to know more about it as well. We had a great view of it from above in London, ON and after the show went over to get a closer view and it looks like a bunch of metal pipes, steel cable, and metal beams all welded together. There are lights spread throughout that illuminate in different colors at different parts of the show. It also gets lowered quite a bit during the first encore acoustic set, and along with the light balls, creates a kind of "porch, or deck on the bayou feeling to it". It is shaped like a bird in flight and moves to simulate wings flapping, especially during Given To Fly.

    One of the more interesting stage elements that I have seen.

    Should have stuck around long enough at the end of a show to see how they take it down and what kind of equipment it takes to move it.

    That thing is so odd. I was a little stunned every time I remembered it was hanging over the band :lol:. I'm not used to much stage setup with them.

    yeah, I wondered if it was really made of PVC pipes painted to look like metal.
