Target - What a difference 4 years makes

Unfortunately, I found myself in a Target over the weekend so I decided to go over to the music section to see how LB was displayed/promoted. I looked... looked again... Checked to see if there was more to the music section and that maybe I missed a couple of aisles or something... Final result: LB not found. It wasn't there. There wasn't an empty slot with its name. I think this store (a very large Target) simply didn't carry it.

Sure was different from Backspacer. True, there was an exclusive back then. But seriously... None? Nothing?
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

By Christmas '09, Backspacer was for sale on their website for $7.

I bought my LB at Target on release day for $9.99. There wasn't a huge display or anything, but it was there...

I think that is as much a symptom of the decline of CDs as a music medium as anything else, rather than PJ itself.

I was just a little surprised because there was a top-10 / new releases section and I thought it might be there but no, nothing. Maybe it was just this Target. This is a big one, though. It is bolted onto the Glendale Galleria inside what used to be a 3-story Macy's flagship store. It is heavily traveled/trampled. Interesting.

I bought a copy on Saturday afternoon at Target since I still do not have my LP that I ordered on July 26...and there was only about five left and there was no display, just on the shelf with about a dozen or so other new releases. Nothing special, but as the OP stated, big difference than BS>

LB was right upfront at my Target. Two rows for it

a bigger question is why was the 10club version of Backspacer for sale at my local walmart yesterday? Yes the hardcover book cd case.

That's the style I bought from the Target by my house - the Ten Club version.

I haven't yet been to a Target store, and they pretty much opened their doors here in Canada for a few weeks now. Can't wait to see their music section ...

If it is like what the Target near my house is, then don't hold your breathe for anything spectacular!

For what it's worth, contrary to popular perception, physical album sales (the vast majority of which are CDs) still make up the majority of album sales in the U.S. In the most recent week for which data are available, approximately 4.7 million albums were sold in the U.S., of which 2.7 million were physical albums.

I suspect that the Target visited by the original poster was either sold out, or slow to put its new stock on the shelf.
