You mean consumerism?
1. Too large a human population.
2. Too much consumption.
3. After seeing this short film, going to our local food co-op and farmer's market will be an even better than usual experience this week.
Today there is good news on climate change. Good foods bring carbon back down to earth where it belongs.
According to soil scientists, transitioning from industrial agriculture practices to organic farming
and ranching could sequester thousands of pounds-per-acre of climate-destabilizing CO2
every year, while nurturing healthy soils, plants, grasses, trees and animals that are
resistant to drought, heavy rain, pests, and disease.
Today's global food system, with its intense dependence on biotechnology,
chemicals, water and fossil fuels, is destroying the natural capacity of
plants, trees and soils to sequester excess greenhouse gases.
That food system is what is creating almost all of the food you
buy at mainstream food markets like Safeway. (funny name)
Shoppers, you can help by purchasing and consuming
low impact organic and sustainably grown foods
and abandoning all of the junk foods advertised
and packaged by industrial food corporations.
You can be on the front line of fighting global
warming and climate change, just by eating
and serving good food.

i thought the video was more about our industrialized food systems specifically moreso than consumerism
All this happening because we want more, more and more. At the end of the video, you can see the frenetic come and go in the supermarkets. Supply and demand.
Animals of the world need people like you and we need your thoughts and ideas. Which is your favorite animal rights group?
That's what I thought. I've seen this years ago. I buy only organic chicken now. Perdue is the worst of the worst. Avoid buying Purdue chickens!
The groups locally are cats protection the ispca and aran, On the world stage I like the work of sea Shepard
I feel ya
Excuse me for butting in, but I'd say HSUS for nationwide animal protection legislation in the US, and Farm Sanctuary. I also give to the ASPCA and local rescues. I also like Center for Biological Diversity and Sea Shepard.
How about you?
Cool man the more people that take an interest in animals the better, I know alot of people put humans first, I see them all the same as 'life'
You know what? This board makes a difference.
There was a thread a few months ago (years ago maybe?) that detailed how sharks were getting killed off shore- in Australia if I remember correctly. They were getting killed because they were swimming too close to shore where surfers and swimmers enjoyed their days.
I argued that it seemed a reasonable thing to do. Since that time, and before this thread, I have changed my mind. I am an ocean-goer when on vacation- we surf and snorkel until we cannot anymore; but I believe when we do these things we are sharing the ocean with the animals that live there. Trust me, I don't want any member of my family getting bit by a shark, but I would assume the risk associated with these activities knowing it is small and that we haven't killed those animals so we can feel safer.
we have buffalo, elk & texas long horns just down the road from me & those critters are very well taken care of & they get a lot of attention from the public. just down the road from the buffalo, elk & long horn ranch is a dairy cow farm where dairy cows are outdoors being taken care of by hard working farmers who been at it for generations.
next time i go to the store for meat (not every day do i take in meat; rather it is red, poultry or even fish) i am going to 2 places: one is the buffalo, elk & long horn ranch & the second place is a old fashion butcher shop where they only fuck around with local well taken care of animals & there is zero coloring added to the meats, zero steroids & whatnot ever given to the feeding animals.
mass produced bullshit like in this video is quite sad. when i saw the lawn mover sucker sucking up chickens i was shocked as i never saw that before & the dairy cows on a merry go round milker (which i assume aggitates their udders or some shit making them produce more milk.... useless dairy bullshit farm that one is.
i call that false dairy a fucking alien farm from outter space... actually the word farm shouldn't even be in there
http://youtu.be/6UCFJ2QF9ms
i took the liberty of dialing in 'merry go round dairy cows' on youtube & here we have it
these assholes just have too many cows & they aren't old school anymore. fuckers!!!!!!

Great post, Chadwick. Animals deserve to be treated well. The best way to give animals a break of course is to go vegetarian (which I do more and more) but if we do eat meat, the conscientious small farms that have well cared for animals is the way to go. None of that factory "farmed" bullshit and certainly not Frankenmeat.

To be honest, this video isn't anything, compared to how Butterball feeds, keeps and slaughters their animals.. I could tell you horror stories.. ( I did Farm Management there and Tuson for about a year apiece). It's what made me quit buying store meats, and take up hunting again. I only take what's needed, we use everything, and it's a clean painless kill shit, or I won't take it. Just my view.. I won't go vegan, because that's not solving anything, and a complete waste of time.. Plus, I work too physically hard to survive off grain and grass. I'm not a cow or a horse. I'm an
Omnivore. So I eat meat. But I do so in a humane and responsible way. ( please know, I'm not here to start an argument. I am just stating my case. So if you attack my views, you will be ignored). I mean no disrespect to anyone here. I am one of the biggest animal advocates you'll ever meet. But I also have no desire to run gucky-muck about following silly food trends to avoid eating an animal because it lives. That is what they are here for, how we raise them, treat them and end their stay here in earth is a human responsibility. And we have majorly missed the mark for many many years! On that I do not disagree at all. I am just too level
Headed to say that eating a living thing is wrong. If it's so wrong, quit eating plants.. They're alive too, right? And in 1996 UC Davis and Stanford U got together and did a three year study, which resulted in findings that plants can feel!! So if that us the standard, aren't we all eating something that's wrong by those guidelines? I say we take back up our responsibilities in a sensible and respectful manner.
If you choose to raise animals for food, then do right by those animals, they are litterky sustaining your life!! Makes theirs a good one while they're in your care! And when their time comes to visit your table, do them Justice, and make your kill clean and painless. Nothing should have to suffer for our sustenance! Period! If I can't make a clean kill shot up on the mountain, I go without! Period.
Side note I am trying to say veganism is stupid, it's just not for me. I
Personally think it's silly. But if it is what you believe, and it works for you, then that is great. Keep doing what works! :-) these are just MY personal opinions, having come from both sides or the fence.
