So, all but one show, up until Brooklyn 2, the band has opened with Pendulum. Enough is enough. I'm not trying to come off as somebody that rants, but I feel like I could speak for a few people including myself. Pendulum is one of the greats off of LB, IMO, but I hope the band considers changing it up at some point. They didn't pull this while promoting Backspacer; so, why now? Fans spend a lot of money traveling show to show and would enjoy being surprised at every opener. Yeah, I know, I know, they have a lot of songs "designated" as openers, but they keep it fresh with all those tunes, never the same opener night after night. I love their music, I love this band and I certainly respect what they choose to do because I'm not in their shoes. Not trying to come off as douche, love and respect to this band. I've enjoyed everything from Ten until now. So, before all those that want to hate and yell at me on the computer, I'm not trying to bitch. I love this band and If their choice is to play the same shit every night, I'm backing them. I just don't like to see it so I want to see what everyone else thinks about this?

Dude have you even seen the setlists??

It is just one (awesome) song played at the start of the show, and obviously the band feels that it is important enough to start the shows. I certainty wouldn't let that overshadow the fact that the setlists have been nice and varied.

And its not like people are traveling and seeing multiple PJ shows for the sole purpose of being surprised at the first song being played - they go for the whole experience and if the band sees Pendulum as the ultimate show opener I don't see anything wrong with that 'cause it kicks ass from what I can tell

So "enough is enough" regarding what?? I don't see what the big deal is. The sets are varied, Pendulum kicks ass as an opener and I would feel HONORED to see 100 Pearl Jam shows with Pendulum opening the show

  • Just trying to get opinions here on this. Like I said, not trying to argue on a computer.

Dude, I look at every setlist and they're amazing... I know people don't travel just for the opener, seriously......???? JUST GETTING OPINIONS
  • No jealousy here... I didn't even see the pitt show live....just trying to see what people think
  • I would love to see 100 pearl jam shows, regardless of opener...i wont be able to do that though...like i said...i love pendulum...just getting thoughts so don't attack me

Well, they can do what they want over the next month plus, but when they play in Portland, I really want them to open with Pendulum.

Consider Pendulum the walk-on song, and the second song to be the actual opener. All the second songs so far this tour have been traditional openers.

Clearly, this is how the band is approaching it.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do

Thanks for a reasonable response, ruggs1996, aurynsdad and the member I'm quoting, slightojeff...just want to hear opinions, i'm not trying to bad mouth the band for opening with pendulum a lot this tour, just wish they would switch it up, but i respect whatever they choose...just want to see what people think

  • Here's the thing.

I'm traveling to one show (Dallas) and I hope they play it every show so it will be guaranteed at Dallas because I really want to see it. A very small percentage of people see 2+ shows, so I don't see an issue, except for a select few. It's worth it for the band to let everyone else enjoy. Plus, now they technically play 2 openers each night, so consider the second song your variation

good looks, i hope you get it because its a great song... you also raise a great point about people not seeing 2+ shows!

yes i do, not in my original post though, look at my response to pushinpaint...great perspective that i didnt think about in my original post
  • Holy cow, people are really jumping on this guy for what is a very fair comment. I heard it open two shows back to back, Pitts and Buff, and was caught off by it. Obviously didn't ruin the show, but would I have rather heard a different opener night 2? Sure. Correct me if I'm wrong, but far as I'm aware they've never used the same song to open every show of a tour prior to this, so how is that not grounds for a civilized conversation?

i think you should just look at the second song as the opener considering they played Release and Wash second the past two nights, plus they soundchecked Hard To Imagine

This complaint would be much easier to get behind if Pendulum was not followed by a typical opening song... heck... Worcester 1 they skipped Pendulum and played Release into Long Road... Worcester 2 is the only exception here unless you consider Low Light an opener... I do not...

Pittsburgh: Pendulum > Of the Girl (usually an opener)

Buffalo: Pendulum > Low Light > Sometimes (usually an opener)

Worcester 1: Release > Long Road (dual openers)
Worcester 2: Pendulum > Low Light

Brooklyn 1: Pendulum > Release (usually opens) - Oceans opens encore which is only ever used as an opener
Brooklyn 2: Pendulum > Wash (again, Wash usually is used as only an opener these days)

If Pendulum were *blocking* Release, Long Road, Sometimes, Of the Girl, Oceans, Wash, Hard to Imagine, Can't Keep etc from being played, I would be pissed and +1 this thread.
  • I know what you mean but if they do a double opener I'd be happy. Pendulum followed by Release, Long Road, Wash etc is fine by me
Happy up here in my tree
