Anyone know if JPJ sells beer? Their website doesn't list it and I know what a conservative image C'ville likes to project. In fact, I was in a state of ~SHOCK~ :shock: when I learned they had booked PJ. I hope the band blows the fucking roof off that place

Yes, but I think there was a 2 beer limit at DMB shows last December...they marked you're tickets

I don't know about the beer, but I'm also concerned about the UVA-type crowd. I guess we will just have to show them how to rock out at a PJ show.

Anyone planning on being there really earlier for GA line? Getting on the rail would make my day, month, year, etc. so I'm thinking about showing up late morning. Would be cool to meet some of the others on the forums.

I called them today and spoke to a person/rep at the arena. He said he knew nothing about that nor was it mentioned anywhere that he could find. Guess we'll just have to see when we get there.... 2 beer limit for a rock concert that lasts 2 1/2 hrs plus... Pretty lame if so.....

"Hi, I’m attending the Pearl Jam show next week, coming from Fairfax. A rumor is circulating among fans that you do not sell beer, or that you limit beer concessions to two beers per ticket holder. Can you please let me know what the beer vending situation will be the night of the Pearl Jam concert, 10/29? Thanks!"

Will let everyone know if I get a response.

My God, if they don't sell beer, I hold PJ responsible for booking a venue with such a rule. Holy crap, won't that blow up in their face?

If you factor in the doors open at 6:30, PJ hasn't been taking the stage until around 8:30, playing till at least 11, oh man.... I'm by no means an alcoholic but I do enjoy my cold beverages and a good buzz at a concert...

Perhaps measured against the state standard, Charlottesville seems liberal by comparison? Sure, there are liberal-minded people and intellectuals connected with the University, but the city itself is anything BUT. Walk through one of their "department stores" and check out the styles offered.

I've lived all over the US, and Virginia by far is the most conservative state in which I've lived. I'm not trying to start a debate, I don't really care. And don't get me wrong, I think Charlottesville is beautiful, and would love to be affiliated with the university.

For all of our sakes, I hope those hippie types (which is where I would belong) and politically liberal people show up in DROVES. I welcome them with open arms....... :thumbup:

The worst we can expect are the red-necky gun rights people who like to rock and roll. Hopefully Ed will gauge that well and not start a brawl with some comments. Otherwise, I feel confident about this one. It's going to be a great time. Probably a mixed crowd, but the majority of people will be chill.

Let's just hope we don't get screwed on the beer. I'm with Attaway above. I hardly drink at all, but if I'm out for the night at a show, I will be pissed if I can't drink on demand.

I did just read some reviews on Yelp and Google. Both sites mention ridiculously expensive beer purchases (duh). One reviewer said there was a 4 beer limit with X's on the hand.

We are coming from Colorado, and there is this thread and now another thread about the Charlottesville fans being too conservative?

You want conservative? SINCE PEARL JAM MYSTERIOUSLY IGNORES THE WEED- LOVING BLUE STATE OF COLORADO we had to go to Salt Lake City last tour. The only black person we saw in that town was the opener Ben Harper! Notwithstanding the political climate, the show rocked.

We thought Charlottesville would be a cool area for vacation, and I sort of assumed, as a University town, it would be a liberal enclave like Boulder. After reading these comments, however, I checked out the 5th Congressional District of VA., which includes Charlottesville. According to Wikipedia, it votes pretty hard core Republican. Still, lets face it, the crowd will be there to rock, just like Salt Lake City...

P.S. It would be kind of fascinating to see the audience reaction if Eddie had a good rant about something

If you enjoy keeping up with the Joneses, especially the rich, trendy ones, Charlottesville is fucking awesome. If you are normal, it's a pretty place populated by snobs. That's what happens when you have highly educated people with trust funds working as wait staff. The show will be fun, just don't interact much with the locals.

Here is my experience with Charlottesville concerts -- I saw the Avett Brothers twice at the ampitheatre on the downtown mall. Granted, it's a much smaller venue and quite honestly, if I had to choose a fan base that I like better as people, I'd pick the Avett fans any day over this bunch. With these prejudices aside -- nobody left those shows thinking "Oh my God, concerts in Charlottesville are lame because the rich, snobby locals don't know how to have fun." Give me a fucking break! We danced, sang, danced some more, hollered, everything you do at a concert. The Avetts started both shows by showing how glad they were to be back in Charlottesville because the folks there appreciate great music and know how to have a good time. Not once did I wonder if I was standing next to an over-educated waiter with a trust fund, and honestly, every waiter I've ever had in any restaurant in town was a gracious, hard-working soul just trying to survive life on this planet like the rest of us (my poor, under-educated redneck nephew being one of them). If I read one more social media post ragging on Charlottesville, I'm going to lose my mind! :nono:

We are all the result of our own experiences and I believe it's possible to share them without being emotional about it. That said, your comments remind me of "Mind Your Manners". We all have the right to have differing points of view, yourself included. But don't ask us not to speak about how we feel.

Might be a good idea for those who are condemning the entire population of Charlottesville to come on down and actually discover it yourself. It's out of this world artistic, leans liberal, has a vibrant restaurant scene full of eats for any budget. If you are out of towners, arrive early and stroll the outdoor downtown mall area. Street musicians frequently perform, plus this area is in the heart of the creative community.

Also, the town is HUGE on welcoming pets, and though you won't bring yours, there are a ton of pet-friendly people and businesses. PS: My daughter is a student at UVa and is super excited about attending the show.

I have had a great time on my visits to C'ville, and I always stayed with local friends so I saw it from a local point of view. Gotta say, even though my friends are way artistic and super liberal, they were also really rich, and I find the stereotypes mentioned here of conservative really really true overall. Also, concerts are different than everyday life, so even though it's fair to say your experience with concert crowds was really great, different bands draw different crowds and it's a mistake to generalize about the overall population based on the audience at specific band shows.

That said, I'm still really hopeful PJ draws the coolest, kindest, rock ingest folks out. I think that's totally possible!

Looks like I stirred some shit; my apologies to the wahoos. To clarify, as someone who grew up in C'ville, has worked at UVA, has had several friends and family graduate from and work at "Mr. Jefferson's University," I can write with absolute certainty that BODO'S BAGELS is amazing, and you'll be doing yourself a disservice by not checking it out; cheap, fast, and delicious. I'm not sure of the beer selection at JPJ, but local brewers Starr Hill and Blue Mountain are both delicious and have several brews to try. Enjoy.

Yes, we have a right to differing points of views based on our experiences. My experience reading these negative threads about Charlottesville does weigh heavily on my emotions, and I have a right to my emotions as well. With all good manners, I respectfully ask that you stop asking me to not have emotions.

Say what you will about my manners, but I'm working really hard to keep the downers and the naysayers from killing my enthusiasm for this show. I'm at the point where I wish I were sitting in the general public area instead in 10C seating. After reading these posts, my gut tells me that the local college crowd is going to be way more into the concert than the so-called "true fans" who continue to question Pearl Jam's judgment in choosing this venue.

Do you think the band -- ANY band -- would book a town/venue without researching demographics, sales, seating and sound quality, and all other conditions that go into making a great show? Fact is -- Pearl Jam booked Charlottesville. THEY decided to go for it, and I believe they had good reason for doing so. The silent majority of local people going to the show are tremendously grateful to have this band in their town, and we will show it in our way. Poo-poo on the 10 Club members who think that's not good enough. (Good manners dictate that I say "poo-poo" instead of what I really mean.)

Ya'll do the best you can to enjoy yourselves whilst you continue to judge the crowd that you've already pre-judged. I hope I'm not sitting next to any of you.
