Stereo Sound Mix
hey! great times at Woo 1 and 2!
something i have noticed, that is true with some shows, but especially PJ, is that mike and stones guitars are panned very heavily left and right in the arena. Back in the days of seating on the floor, if i was on stones side, i could NEVER hear mike, and visa versa.
in worcester, i was in GA both nights.. night one i was in mike land.. night two, i ended up on stones side, and i ended up having to make my way towards the middle of the venue, as i could not hear mike AT ALL... as soon as i got within the "throw" of the PA speakers on mikes side BAM, i can hear him.
i work in post production audio (sound for TV) for a living, and have mixed a lot of live sound.. and while i dont claim to have the same prowess mixing a rock concert as PJ's crew does, it boggles my mind that it isnt realized by someone on the crew, after all these years, that about 40% of the arena is missing the lead guitar, because of where they are standing.
SURE the guitars need SOME stereo spread in order to have decent separation, but its very common for arena sized, and stadium sized bands, to have a largely MONO mix, so that no matter where you are, you hear everything.
any one else notice this? its not just WOO, its a PJ live mixing thing i have noticed for years.
worked out well for me, i was in GA, and moved. but if i had had a seat (like many times in the past) and i coulnd't hear mike all night, it might have been a bummer!
