Worcester: Great performance, Bad choice of venue

Great performance! After seeing many shows they were still able to give something new and different. They sounded amazing and the small environment they played in was great.
Unfortunately, the DCU center was a terrible facility. I hope they never go back.
Problems with it:
Ten Club ticket pick up was one long line going around a corner before the staff broke people in to separate lines by last name.
Parking was tough, driving from one small full lot to another before finding (with no direction signs to help) an open one.
The entrance numbers were impossible to see with all the people around them. No signage to find Door 16, which is where GA was told to enter.
The mens rooms were inadequate and too few. I now know what it is like for women. A long line and then all stalls. Really, I this was the first time I have ever seen a mens room with all stalls.
The line for beer was even worse. Must have been a half hour wait and when I got my beer, she said "sorry we are out of cold ones, would you like me to put ice in it for you"

  • The lines for food, drinks and bathrooms were awful and I am sure some missed some of the show because of it. That is sad because the show was incredible!!!

The venue staff was definitely not prepared for this.

The beer/food lines were long and the workers were very very slow. At one point they were making fries in the "Auto Fry" machine at the concession stand I was in line for... the guy dumped a bag of fries into the machine but didn't break the fries up before putting them in, so essentially he dumped in a frozen block of fries... When the timer went off for the fries, the whole block came out frozen in the center but cooked on the outside... it was pretty funny but at the same time about 5 people were waiting on fries they already paid for... luckily I didn't order fries.

The venue itself was fine and didn't hinder the show at all.

funny, I didn't get to Worcester until about 6ish. Went to Uno's to pee with wife, got out of there and walked up the side walk. Happened to look to my right and saw what looked like a ticket booth with maybe 20 people in there. Noticed it was the 10C ticket pickup. One person in front of me at around 6:30pmish. Not a problem.

One trick for the bathroom. Don't go into the entrance. Go into the exit. Deuche move for sure, but worked for me last night and I was at a urinal within 30 seconds of walking in, no bs. No one complained either.

I got to the 10 club window right around 7pm and no line at all, walked right up and grabbed my tickets. I think the only reason why they did Worcester is that the Garden was not available for 2 days this week. Tuesday night was the only open date as the circus and sports were already booked.

The Centrum/DCU center is a minor league facilty that is bear bones, one tip is to walk around to the back of the building as the lines were shorter for beer and there was no line at all for the Men's room when I had to go.

Yeah, had no problems getting my 10c tix at 7pm. But I understand folks got there much earlier than that.

All the stories about the lines being too long are very true. But that said, the small venue helped big time with this show, making it it an incredible one to do the energy, passion, and intimacy of it all. I passed up on getting beers during the show because the show was just that good.

Not much you can really do about it. TD Garden was booked with the Circus, most likely the reason they didn't play it. But they are also playing different venues throughout the tour so who knows, maybe that's just their thing this time.

Ha ha, at our local amphitheater they have it set up like this and I don't think I've ever gone in the entrance. Always the exit, then you catch someone at that end as they are leaving. Too funny.

These are all the things I was concerned about before the show, in addition to traffic on the pike, etc. I left my place in Boston at 3:30, got to the venue at 5:00 and had no problems. Walked right up to the Ten Club will call, which was my biggest concern. The GA line at door 16 looked huge when we finally found it, but we still ended up only about 7 people deep in front of Mike. I thought the way they staggered the GA admission at the door was fantastic-- they only let in about 20 people every 10 minutes or so, so no one was running to get to the front and once you got a place you could have your friends hold it and run out to pee or get food before it got too crazy--the DCU staff does deserve credit for that at least. The whole thing was MUCH smoother than I expected, but again, I did take off work and leave the Boston very early. If you had to work normal hours, you would have been screwed.

All that said, the poor DCU staff was overwhelmed. Not sure why, I have seen Foo Fighters and other big acts there in the past. I didn't get any food at the venue-- my friend ran and got Subway while we were waiting in line at door 16, but he said he had to walk really far to find food. Getting out of the garage at the end of the night was rough, but not the worst I've experienced. The funny thing was we stopped at the Natick rest plaza on the way home at about 1:30 and the poor McDonald's staff was overwhelmed there! I assume they don't usually see an influx of hungry rock fans at 1:30am on a week night. Luckily we only wanted Gatorade.
  • Something is definitely wrong, if the best solution is to cheat and cut people in line. I have actually seen people get thrown out of venues by doing that. Who knows maybe something like that is what caused the fight I saw not far from the mens room.... I don't blame the DCU staff, they just seemed overwhelmed because of poor design and management of the place. I still tipped the person who gave me a cup of warm beer with a few ice cubes even though that is complete unacceptable.
  • I'll bet all the folks complaining about the DCU in Worcester didn't go to Randall's Island... Geeezz
