Worcester Night 2 Parking Concerns

Had a couple of friends go last night, and I'm going tonight. They said trying to get out of the DCU Center garage was a nightmare. About 90 minutes, most of which was spent in park. I'll be driving up from Long Island today, any suggestions on where to go if I'm avoiding that garage?

  • There are plenty of surface lots. Avoid all garages.
  • I parked in a lot just west of DCU on the north side of the building. There was a Bank Of America ATM near the road there. It was about 20 minutes getting out, but you have to exit the south side of the lot.

You're in for a treat. They were as good as ever last night.

Good to hear there are plenty of lots and I won't have to leave early to desperately find something. Thanks, see ya there!

park on the street tons of free parking
  • Wow I parked in the DCU garage and was out in 5 minutes. I guess I got lucky. Probably won't make it in there tonight (it was full by I think 6:30) and will have to check out a street lot.

Park at the 99 Restaurant RIGHT OFF EXIT 16. Cost me $20 (which they seemed to jack up to $30 later on...) but I was out of there in 0 minutes after the show.
  • show ended just before 11:30 - we were out of the garage and on the highway by 11:37..... We must have gotten lucky too

im with the OP....we got there earlyish (630?) when the DCU garage was pretty empty so I guess we parked near the beginning of the garage and as a result had to just about wait for the whole garage to empty before we could snake our way up and back down and around to the exit. Was a solid 60 minutes 50 of which were spent in park.

basically its the DCU center parking garage...and only one car gets out at a time, and every one pays with a credit card as they exit (~30 seconds per car...I timed it)

definitely looking for parking elsewhere tonight. Wouldnt mind parking somewhere free and walking 10 minutes to the show...

Ahh ok, that's not how it was where I parked so must have been a different garage. I wouldn't mind walking either because I live an hour away and really need to get right on 290.
  • Tons of meter parking in the area only just a few blocks from the Centrum. (I'm old, I still call it that) Save your cash (and headache trying to get out of the lot/garage) and find one of those.

2 hours but only till 6PM.
So if you get one at say 5:00, you throw a buck in quarters in and you're golden.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Just tell them you are getting dinner. They will give you a hard time but in the end they won't charge you. We've done that several times. Of course things are always subject to change I guess.

I parked in the DCU garage last night and boy was that a mistake. Amateur mistake, I know. But as others have said it was about 45 minutes sitting in park. On the brightside, once I got out of the garage all of Worcester cleared out so it was an easy ride home from there.

Also...FYI...the arena is small and not really designed for capacity crowds like this. The renovations look good but the concession stands, lines for alcohol, and bathroom lines (even mens room)...the lines were ridiculous during the show. I had plenty to drink beforehand so I wasn't too disappointed but I tried to get a beer during the show and gave up. Would've been a 15+ min wait. Lines were about 15-30 people long in some spots.

Security was easy though, so I had no problem bringing in the green stuff.

  • Believe it or not it WAS designed for capacity crowds like that. It's just old now, even with the "renovations" they just completed or are in the process of completing. The DCU Center, formerly the Worcester Centrum was THE concert arena for the Boston area throughout the 80's up until the new Boston Garden was built. Every major act played there in lieu of the old Boston Garden. I went to countless shows, most if not all, sold out but I don't recall the FUBAR that went on last night.

interesting, good point. I had no trouble getting a drink before the show but once teh whole crowd was there I couldn't believe it. I know alot of places have lines but these seems a little ridiculous to me, thats all.

Still, the small size of the arena really benefitted the energy of the crowd and the interactions between them ad the band.

i was on the 4th floor of the DCU garage and i really didn't think it was a big deal. that being said, i always come with a a cooler full of food, water, beer.. so i dont even get in my car for the first hour. time goes by a lot faster when your foot isn't on the brake.

I did the same thing. Well worth 20 or 30 bucks. I had to pay 30.. got right out!
  • Last night I was out in less than five minutes. Tonight it's been 30 MINUTES and we haven't moved an inch. I'm livid. Probe won't get home until 3am at this rate. So fcuked for work tomorrow. Should have listened to advice in this thread.

how long is your drive, normally? It took me almost an hour to leave the garage last night and most of it was at a standstill. But once out of the garage the streets were empty and it was a quick ride back to Boston. Home by 1.

Took me about 45 mins to get out tonight. I was on the 5th floor. And I had a 3 hour drive back to NJ...

I was surprised by the security, or lack thereof. Nobody checked my purse, no patdowns; I was left wishing I had brought something to eat in with me. :fp: People were allowed to stand and dance in the aisles, run down to the railing, etc.

Ugh that's terrible. I parked away from the venue and walked 10 minutes, worked out for me. I think asking about parking is something I'm going to before every show now :)

I'm about 70 minutes southeast of Worcester and was home by about 1 as well. I think it took us 50 minutes to get out of the garage last night. Tuesday night I rolled right out off the 3rd floor and was on my way in 5 minutes. Definitely just got lucky then!
