Thats why they are the best band in the world!! Oh I also liked when the dude who threw the mag on stage told him to play the kids are all right and he said " I played it at 7:30 asshole"! i read on another thread that they had a photo shoot for the magazine and they took a bunch of full band pictures, and ed refused to take a solo one because he wanted the full band to be on the cover. rolling stone then used a live shot of ed on the cover, not a full band shot from the photo shoot. so i think ed has legit reason to be pissed at the magazine

  • Vedder told that story last night. If you look at Rolling Stone's website, you can see the cover he is talking about.

I was at the show last night and got a couple of pics of Eddie with the Rolling Stone. I've posted them, and a few others from last night, at http://cincypjphotos.blogspot.com/.

Even though others have pointed it out, I again wanted to point out what a smug fool you are.

that is so fucking typical of rolling stone. i had never heard the story until now. fucking bastards using a live shot of just ed. those cocksuckers. i cant believe they went behind the bands back and fucked them and their wishes. id be pissed too! they dont do a cover interview in years and this is what they get? i wouldve lit it on fire on stage or something. assholes.

I won't even get into your blatant immaturity. Instead we'll discuss the fact that THEY STILL CHOSE TO BE IN RS. They know the shit the mag has pulled in the past. They knew the chances. Nothing changes the fact that it was their choice. So they got stabbed in the back by RS. This shouldn't surprise anyone. I'm positive there was a lot more interview material with the other members, and yet, shockingly the mag chose to focus on Ed's interview. Ooh, those bastards! Using the attractive frontman to sell copies!
I know what this band has been through. I've been along for almost all of it (fan since 93). And I've stood behind most of their decisions every step of the way. But Ed wiping his ass with the magazine is just what the guy does. And the rest of you standing around saying "poor Ed, he got fucked over once again"...that's LIFE! That's stardom and celebrity. And they have chosen to step back into the light. Do you think the assloads of promotion are coincidence? VH1 Storytellers?! A new video in rotation?! The list goes on. Do you really believe that they didn't fully expect things to be exactly the same as the last time they left the spotlight?
    Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

There's another thread like this in the porch but I'll say here what I said there. This is the THIRD time Ed's had this exact complaint towards RS. It's kinda hard to feel bad for the guy at this point. If they've screwed him over three times now regarding this whole me solo v.s. me w/ the band issue, maybe it's time for Ed to wise up & stop dealing with them.

Yeah RS screwing over PJ before. They've NEVER done that before.

I agree. I don't see this as a "sticking to your guns" situation. The band agreed to do lots more publicity this time around, they agreed to the Rolling Stone interview, and although I think it sucks what happened, it was always a gamble to agree to deal with Rolling Stone. They took it, and although Ed's apparently unhappy with it, I'm sure it sold some records. And that was the point.

Not from what I can see. They are some of the biggest hypocrites around.

I HATE YOU CLEAR CHANNEL!!!! so im going to perform shows at your venues.

I HATE YOU MICROSOFT!!!! so im gonna go work with time warner, a company just as big and evil.

I HATE YOU TICKETMASTER!!!! however, i think your site would be great to sell our album.

I HATE HIGH TICKET PRICES!!!! so im gonna play a bunch of special, high priced shows.

I HATE COMPANIES THAT EXPLOIT THE POOR!!!! so im gonna play at a casino.

I LOVE THE FANS!!!! so we're going to sporadically announce tour dates and shows, so you can buy tickets to one show 300 miles away, only to have one announced 4 days later within 30 feet of your front door.

I HATE TICKET SCALPERS!!! so im going to force you to buy 2 tickets, even though you only need one.

Really? I thought it was rather weak myself. I find the statement "it's rock & roll" as convincing an argument as the phrase, "so".

I don't think anyone was offended by what Ed said or did. I just don't feel the least bit bad for him or the band. If Ed is STILL shocked at being screwed over by RS then I'd like to know what planet he's been living on for the past 16 years. If this was the first time this happened I could maybe understand him being upset or feeling betrayed. But this happens all the time w/ PJ & RS. If they bother you that much then STOP WORKING WITH THEM.

Ed is not the only member of the band. Perhaps he got "outvoted" by the other band members or his label made the decision FOR THEM to do the RS article and/or other press. There are always compromises. He has every right to wipe his ass with the cover and I don't blame him because I was kind of pissed off that the band wasn't on the cover with him, too.

    Exactly!!!

I was worried that this whole media blitz was a bad sign, and I didn't even know how right I was.

Did anyone think any of these things, i.e. RS, MTV, Ticketmaster, etc. have changed just because the band has? I mean seriously, the same machine that's created the buzz of Creed, Ashley Simpson, et all has just magically changed because Pearl Jam decided to 'Get in the Ring' again?!? Seriously?!? Does anyone have any plausible reason why they would have expected these institutions to treat the band with kid gloves, or any differently than they have in the past? Just one.

You can either be in the spotlight or out of it. Personally I preferred them when they were out, but they chose to step back in, and tons of people here defended it, well, you can't change your story now. I don't know about anyone in this thread, but plenty of folks have been defending all this publicity and I'd like to see what all those people are saying now.
I mean I dare you to sing "Black" and not feel it.
    I dare you.
I've tried to phone in "Jeremy" a few times, and it's tough.
    It doesn't work.

Did you happen to read his interview? He certainly did not come off as an unwilling participant. Get over it folks. This isn't "small man vs. giant corp." This is a band who is choosing to once again put their asses on the line. And using magazines to wipe is just Ed's M.O.

I guess I pretty mush agree with that.

I don't think he was forced to do the interview, I don't know the whole cover picture issue/interview, maybe he wanted the whole band with him on the cover? maybe not, but I'm sure mr vedder knows that if you play with the devil, you will probably get burned.

He chose to do the inerterview and maybe they screwed him a bit?
    Who knows.

this has been rehashed a bit in various threads, but from what ed apparently said last night, RS wanted to shoot a solo portrait of him to be on the cover, and he said no. He only shot the band pics, because he wanted the whole band on the cover.

So RS just used an action shot of him and put him on the cover by himself.

I kind of say so what. It's a magazine. They reserve the right to make any and all editorial decisions, and ed had to have known that going in. I wouldn't even say they screwed him over as much as just didn't let him dictate their coverage.

Hiya Bri :) Thanks for getting my back. It's true, it's been oft-discussed. I look forward to hearing the whole story, from the ass's...er, uh, horse's mouth when I get a hold of the boot. But I still feel that no matter what, this is what the band has decided, as a WHOLE, to start up again. Publicity, promotion, prostitution. I just hope they're still strong enough to pull through it :)
