I expected 35 plus songs since we don't have an opening act. I love the set-list so far but it just seems like a normal amount of songs.

Hopefully they open it up in Brooklyn baby! Looking for 40 + each night!

PS..... Love the new album; have it on repeat the last 2 days!!!

plus they are approching their 50s and expend a ton of energy on their set, they don`t just stand there and not move, so expecting XX number of songs because they have no opener isn`t going to happen

Really with this post? Just enjoy the show and stop being disappointed for no reason. Your favorite band is coming to town. Enjoy and stop crying.

  • We were told, very directly and emphatically in fact, on 10/31/09 at the Spectrum that this was it for marathon shows. No more 40+. I highly doubt we'll get 35 again. We were warned, we were told and we must accept it and enjoy these 28-32 shows. The Black Crowes are doing 16. Other acts that have been a around a while are doing less than that. If they went down to 25, I'd still be happy.

  • Definitely fair to bring up, and I should have remembered that because I was at that show. I'll change my statement to say we shouldn't expect 35-40 songs show anymore.

Sure, they say no more marathons or 40+ song shows. I bet at some point they'll do closer to 35. Maybe PJ23?

With no opener, how close to ticket time have they been taking the stage?

We used to have to walk uphill barefoot in a blizzard both ways to see Pearl Jam shows back then, kids these days don't know how easy they have it.

I'll take 9 songs off a band's yet-to-be-released new album over show length bragging rights.
  • This is just the very beginning, give them a minute. Would seem to me it might make more sense to play from 8 to 8:45, 15 min intermission, 9-11 blitz. Kind of like Rush does.

But this is just the very beginning of a new era so we should give 'em a minute. I was at Springsteen's 1st show of this new era, he went for 2:50 plus and did not leave the stage. That show evolved quite a bit over the length of the Wrecking Ball Tour (though not in the US) so let's see where it is at the end of the month.

Hopefully the boys are like I want to play this and that too, then you have a little longer show.

Also be aware that cities have noise curfews--most being 11 pm. Sometimes the band has played past them (Buffalo 2003, for instance), but there are certain cities where it's just not an option. It strikes me as strange Buffalo would enforce a noise curfew in a hockey rink, yet bars are open until 4 am.

Where was it that they turned the power off with Springsteen on stage with Pearl Jam?
I think Toronto has a strict 11 pm curfew.

i feel pretty certain that i am alone here, but the shows are long enough as is it. Dont get me wrong, i dont want them to get shorter, but the 2:40 mark is about where it should end, for me. At that point i am exhausted, my back hurts, and the crowd (unless the band pulls out a massive hit) is getting pretty lazy too.

i have never felt this way for PJ, but when i saw the foo's on the wasting light tour, i couldn't wait for it to end, despite how good the band was.

i like leaving a show wanting more, not feeling like i have had my fill.

just to clarify something about MSG 2010, that show has 3 tags in it that are listed as songs, and 3 others that are only about 1 minute each (wasted reprise is an intro basically) and I'm Open is pretty much vocals only.....not a good example IMO with regards to total songs...if they threw these in every night, then every night would be 35 just about....they don't spend much more energy or time on the tags, etc.the other thing is , LENGTH of songs, could be 30 but if they jam out RVM, porch, RITFW, etc....could push it to 3 hours.

yes, i agree, philly 4 we won't get on a regular basis, maybe one per tour.....not quite 3.5 hours though but maybe close to 3 hours in a city that has no hard curfew, however, i would say that it will only happen with a no opening act show most likely...and if the crowd warrants...

we actually have the best we can hope for i think....no opening act and 2.35 show lengths consistent...doesn't get any better, with some slower tunes mixed in to pace them.....i would rather have that, then shorter shows most of the time and maybe one or two long shows...most likely i'm not at the longer shows...and neither are you. and most of the opening bands are bad....really. 85% of the crowd have no interest in them, rarely is one good and its usually before they get big so its basically filler time...

very happy with current show setup, and it gives them freedom to play more new stuff....the extra tunes are gravy....as one guy said, Rush been doing these longer shows since 96' - no opener - and in 04' on the R30 tour, they did 4 cover tunes which they had never really done before except in the beginning (74-75') and extended the show to 3 hours full of music, about 3.15 total time with intermission.....that won't happen again with them, but i really like how they didn't take any Rush tunes out, just basically added the covers and extended the show.

I was at Spectrum 4 and MSG 2 and either that's made me feel REALLY greedy or REALLY fortunate haha. We will see after this stretch of shows. I think I'm leaning more towards fortunate. ;) But I do have high hopes for Brooklyn 2 and Baltimore, but in their own rights- not trying to be like previous shows. That's what I love about PJ- every show is special in it's own way. At least to me :)
