Any Collective Soul fans here? I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm a huge fan. They're definitely not as good as they were in the '90s, but I'll never forget listening to their self titled album for the first time. "The World I Know," has got to be one of the most memorable rock songs of the '90s in my opinion.

All good in my book... New music should be out sometime hopefully. I have to disagree about not being as good as they were in the 90's. They still put out solid albums, they have their own sound/vibe, that's why I enjoy them to this day... Been a fan since day 1.

  • I love me some Collective Soul! Not as much as PJ mind you. I saw CS in Columbus in the late 90's. On top of the early works, they played a killer cover of The Gap Bands' You Dropped A Bomb On Me that I wish I had a copy of today. Oh well. I guess not every band wants to "bootleg" their shows. Lol! Speaking of which, I can't wait to get my hands on the recent Pittsburgh show! It was awesome!

I liked them back in the 90s. Then my friend's brother's band opened for them somewhere in the city and I got to see them live, probably around 5-6 years ago. They played that hit song they had, 'shine' I think it was called, and at the end the lead singer was grumbling about people leaving cuz they only wanted to hear that song. Don't doubt it was an off night or whatever but it made me feel so bad for them. And I was excited to see them too.

That sucks..I'm sorry to hear that. I've loved every show I've been to of theirs.

The best show I've ever been to was Collective Soul and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra in Atlanta. They made a DVD out of it called "Home." You should check it out sometime.

i saw them abot 10 or so years ago in philly when "Youth" came out. Their concert was "vegas" themed and there was showgirls, wine tasting and other stuff. Fun show, they played mostly all hits though. Kinda lost interest in them after that, but still break out their earleir stuff now and again.

They played at Eastern Illinois University when i was a student there in the late 90's. It was a fun show and I do dig their sound.
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.

saw them last night and......as usual.....it was a great and fun show.

when I see a band like that from the seventh row and it's ten miles from my house, I always think, "damn, it's a pain in the ass (and expensive!) to see PJ" :))

I posted this on my website blog many, many years ago:

    Who are these people?

Picture this : a nice sunny early spring afternoon, 2,000 people gathered at the base of a ski mountain to watch a free show by a rather large band. Sounds great doesn't it? Collective Soul put on a free show at Stratton Mountain on the 26th of March, 1999. Families were there, apres skiers were there; and it seemed as if everyone was enjoying themselves. A free concert...sounds pretty good to me!

An hour and a few hit songs later the show was over and I was thoroughly impressed. Not a big fan of theirs, I found myself actually wanting a CD or 2 afterwards. The band had just finished and were saying thank you and goodbye to the audience (most of whom really seemed to enjoy themselves), when out of nowhere some idiot decided it would be funny to throw an iceball at the lead singer (the newspaper and many front row attendees would later claim there was a d-sized battery inside of it but I cannot confirm this). The next thing I know I look up and the lead singer is face down on the stage with a group of security and bodyguards and band members surrounding him. The drummer bolts to the front of the stage screaming over and over, "Who the FU*K threw that?!?!" (and who can blame him?). Police start filing on stage and the band is just pissed as hell (to say the very least). More than one of them tried to talk to us and all they could get out was a weak "but...but...why. WHY?" (insert angry *tsss* here)", and one even managed to say, "If anyone knows who did this, please beat the holy sh*t out of them" (or something to that effect). The singer got up under his own will and from what I can gather he was alright, just a bit shaken up and in all likelihood bruised.

Everyone was just in awe of what had happened. I stood there and was on the verge of being overwhelmed with emotion. Who in their right mind would do something like this? Who goes to a concert (free or paid for) with the intention of throwing an iceball or, even worse, a battery at the lead singer?

As I was leaving I saw some kid in a van driving away that kept pointing to his forehead kind of like "this is where I hit him!" but I do not know if this was the kid. This seems like something someone this low in class would do...bragging about knocking someone down for no reason whatsoever.

Yet it occurred to me as I was leaving that it is the .01% of the crowd that the band would remember...and I would seriously like to apologize on behalf of everyone else who had a great time. No one deserves that kind of treatment.
Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"

Like EV saying "me and jeff are going to beat the crap out of everyone who isn't wearing shoes" (words to that effect). Ed's whole rant was pretty fucking funny.

Back to CS......just a good, polished rock and roll band that gives people what they want. as good as PJ? no.....but I dare say their last two albums haven't shown such a precipitous decline away from what made them popular in the first place :-$

I'd say I'm a big Collective soul fan. Seen them 3 times. Got to meet the band last time they were here. Got my Dosage and "Rabbit" album signed, and a picture with Ed. It was the 10th anv of the Dosage album, and they played that all the way through, then set two was hits and a few off the other albums.
