I have so many that could be top 5 by the end of the year. Making a Top 10 list for the year is gonna be tough. 2013 has been such a killer year for music.
2. of montreal - lousy with sylvianbriar
3. pearl jam - lightning bolt

4 and 5 make it by default. They probably wouldn't have made my list if I had heard more albums this year. Just been really busy with life, and generally apathetic towards hearing new music. 1-3 are feeling like classics though.
Jumpin the gun a little, no?
not really. weve had 42 weeks to listen to music. Theres just a few major albums that have left to be released for 2013.
2: Loud Like Love by Placebo

What a fuckin egotistical post.... I've seen some of the crap you post about and you have the nerve to diss what people have posted as their personal faves? Get real dude. You don't have to drool over Arcade Fire, Kanye and Justin Timberlake to have good taste in music. Then you don't even have the manners to educate us on what a qualifiable list would be.
What does it matter how many genres are represented? The thread title is "Your Top 5".
Besides, there are plenty of styles that fall under the rock umbrella that one can make a pretty diverse list using only rock music.
Nah. I just think theres alot of great stuff released every year and in 2013. The National, QOTSA, PJ, AIC and Arctic Monkeys arent the only bands that released stuff this year.
Sure its "your top 5", but as I said, if you stick to listening to one genre, seems pretty narrow stuff. Its like if I listed my top movies of 2013 and they all were comedy movies. Sure there were some good comedy movies this year, but if thats all you viewed, how can you make a judgement about whats out there?
Might want to actually read the post before spouting off.
I find the lists so far boring. QOTSA, AIC, PJ, MMJ, all on every list. Thats some seriously boring groupthink going on.
Where's your top 5? Or do you not want to say until you're sure it lines up with what Pitchfork will say?
Drop the asinine nonsense and get over yourself, my friend.
Not everyone here listens to the same boring old alt-rock radio that you listen to. Some of us actually go beyond that and listen to....you know...uhhh... other genres.
Rock music had some great music in 2013. But lets be real Dr Dog, The national, QOTSA, PJ, and Jim James dont have the patent on good music.
You know you can listen to other genres right? Your list looks like the 15 others posted before you. So monotonous and staid.
I made it pretty clear that I read your post when I mentioned how egotistical it is.
It's a fucking rock music forum, what the hell else do you expect than a bunch of rock albums? Former boybanders and Kardashian family members aren't high on the list of priorities for most fans of rock music.
Congratulations!!!! Your post, and the logic you used to come up with it, is among the most idiotic and arrogant things I've read on the entire internet.
No nonsense there.
None of the music I listed is boring.
Show me where is said that the only quality music was rock music. Not much outside of what can be classified as rock music does anything for me, so why would it be on a list of my 5 favorite albums?
If we're trying to collectively list all the albums that could qualify for some sort of year end best albums of the PJ message pit list, I'd be more inclined to mention albums outside of the music that really trips my trigger, but I'd still mostly stick to the stuff I know.
Its a PJ music forum. I dont know about you but my music collection includes alot more than just PJ albums and includes other genres as well. Personally I get bored listening to only one genre. Listening to all rock all the time bores me.
With all the new music coming out each year, it doesnt make sense to limit onesself to just one style of music.
Kanye and JT are absolutely an interest of rock fans or music fans in general. How many rock fans do you know? I dont know very many people who listen to only one genre. You ever looked at another persons iPod? Whats more likely, an iPod with a diverse array of genres and styles, or a 60 gig one filled with all rock? Lets ponder that shall we? Lets do this together!
You could also argue stuff like the newest AIC isnt a priority for most fans of music either. Its not just JT and Kanye that you could single out.

Former boyband members and Kardashian family members is how Kanye and Justin were classified. Is that respecting Kanye and Justin fans?
Im all for respecting others opinions, but lets be real and do that across the board.
Plus its just straight up ignorance. Anyone suggesting Yeezus and 20.20 experience wont be near the top on MANY best of 2013 lists, only proves my point further.
There were lots of acclaimed and loved albums this year. Those were 2 of them.
Lets all respect others opinions. Board wide. Doesnt just apply to the music you like.
The only band or list I insulted was the one with AIC. I never attacked anyones list or choices. In fact ive posted 3 or 4 times how rock music had lots of good releases in 2013.
