I understand that Sonic Youth has been opening for Pearl Jam. I like them alot, and want to see what some of you guys think? How do they perform, and what songs do they play? They're gettin' pretty old, as in, age. I mean..23 yrs is a VERY long time. So, how are these guys?

  • Sonic Youth was very cool, they played for 45 minutes.
    They don't look old.

Eric was using surfaces to play his guitar, he jumped off the stage and played it on a security guards head.

I agree with this. I enjoyed maybe half of their songs. The other half was a lot of feedback and screeching, sometimes for 3 or 4 minutes at a time. It was entertaining seeing the one guy rub the guitar strings on someones head, but it didn't make for good sounding music. If it weren't for the potential Ed preset I doubt I would make the effort to show up for the whole SY set, especially for all 6 shows I'm going to this tour.

Sonic Youth, I have seen them live about twice on their own and they ALWAYS seem to amaze me. Thurston's guitar playing is OUT of this world!! Yeah,he does a lot of crazy shit w/his guitar, involving drum sticks, playing w/pedals, and going ape shit on the guitar. I love it!! I am glad that they are opening up for PJ!

I know SY is NOT for everyone. But you can't deny that they have been a band for 25 years already!! :D Plus, they are a very talented bunch!! :)
