The lead up to Lightning Bolt has just been awesome. The band and those in charge of promotion really did it right for this one. The countdown clock was fun, they've really started using social media, and using it correctly. The album announcement and the tour announcement right there together. 2 good singles, with videos for both, with 2 different sounds showing both sides of what this band does. All the teaser images revealing the song titles. The short film they released and all the interviews that went with it. Think about how many millions of people watch ESPN and how many people saw how important this band is to that dude, and we can all relate to that. The tour starts at the end of this week (it will be my first time seeing the 1st show of a tour) and none of us really know what to expect. I've got a feeling we are going to see a lot of "HOLY SHIT!" setlists on this run.
A lot of us, including myself, was bitching about all the different side projects the last couple of years but let's honestly look at it for what it is. These dudes branch off and do their own things for a little while and then come back to the band ready to do it right. Quality over quantity, right?
22 years later, this is impressive and we're lucky that this is the band we all love. Other bands from when we started listening to PJ are not around anymore, some are not even with us anymore, and some are still doing their thing playing in front of much smaller crowds. PJ is part of an elite group that has done rock n' roll about as perfectly as it can be done, and they deserve about a million kudos for that.
And today is the last day that we can actually say...
When does Lightning Bolt come out?
Next Tuesday.
