now, I'm no unsung, but why couldn't the cops, at that close range, shoot the tires instead of the person inside?
Was thinking the same. Don't blame the cops and with bombs being a real threat they didn't know but this could have gone better. Sad how mental I'llness can kill you. Wish best for the kid. Wonder what affects it will have on her growing up. Any thoughts on this?
Police tend to shoot people who do this to other police ...
...
People who do crazy shit of this magnitude... pretty much deserve to die in a hail of police gunfire. Mostly because events unfold in the moment... without all this time to look back, review, discuss and decide.
Example: Someone tries to crash their vehicle into a secured area. What is the probabliity that a person that would do something like that... would be in possession of a firearm or explosive device? I mean, the place has armed uniformed and plain clothed officers on the premises. It not like driving through the plate glass of a 7-11.
sure, we know NOW there were no guns or explosives... but, did you know that as events were unfolding... as the car raced through the streets?
Do people really believe that these people are going to Monday Morning Quarterback... in the middle of a play? No. They are in the moment and have to react to actions... consider the safety of others before the safety of the nutcase running amok.

Hey I'm not disagreeing with what happened..understand it...
Can someone explain how that cop car got like that? Wasn't from the lady's car. Did it roll?
Decent explanation on why they didn't go for the tires.:
Dr. Daniel Kennedy, an expert on police force, told Business Insider that if police had shot at Carey's tires they likely would have missed. In that case, Kennedy said, the bullet could have ricocheted on the ground or off the vehicle itself and possibly injured somebody else.
"Same reason they don't shoot a gun out of a bad guy's hand," Kennedy told BI in an email message. "Police only hit maybe 20% [of the time] where they try to in a fluid situation."

This is another police abuse of power, I'm no longer going to point them out since there are so many here crying for a police state. It's becoming so common-place that I don't need to.
I am not a cop, but when I was a soldier we were taught shoot to kill. If you shoot to wound then you can miss or hit someone or something else. The chest is the biggest target. It is not like in the movies when they shoot a shoulder or what not. These guys have too much adrenaline to make such a tight shot.
