Music you shouldn't like as much as you do...

Just got a handful of Neil Young's more obsure albums and while I'm pretty picky at what I keep on my iPod...I can't bear to delete any of his music.

I'm sure the PJ connection has something to do with it, but even his more low key, high pitched jams, are okay with me.

His strange voice somehow soothes me, and it definitely makes it all worth it when a 'rocker' with a good riff comes along.

Anyone else have a connection with an artist/band that they normally wouldn't?

I also enjoy Frank Sinatra when I'm feeling like chilling out! :)

  • I have liked a lot of music in the past that I am fairly embarrased to admit to liking (80's hair metal, some 90's rap, etc). As far as what I listen to today that I shouldn't like...Michael Jackson. Different than anything else in my collection because I am not an R&B/Pop person at all but my wife really likes his stuff and some (I repeat, some) of his songs have grown on me.

Funny you mention that. I'm the same, but finally got Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous from my local library.

Especially after his death, it seems like that is essential music in any collection...though I'll probaby whittle it down to just my favorites after a while.

I remember wearing MJ pins on my clothes in elementary school...so having his music in my ipod is the least I can do!

Sometimes I get embarrassed for liking the band Kings of Leon (mostly because their last couple albums exluding MB have been rather poppy and more ballads than rock albums). It's gotten to the point where my sister, who is into Lady Gaga and Rhianna, loves a couple KOL songs. But then I think, well if I love Pearl Jam as much as I do then I shouldn't be embarrassed about liking a band like Kings of Leon. You like what you like, and you can't help that haha.

I feel the same way actually. Fell in love with them when Aha Shake Heartbreak came out. I went and saw them live before Come Around Sundown came out (the tour before the cancelled tour) and I think my wife and I were the only people in the crowd that knew every song they played. Most people were just standing around during the lesser known songs. Lots of teeny-boppers. The one thing I disagree with you on is Mechanical Bull. I think that album is horrible. If the next one is as bad as this one I am out.

This guy's rendition of Gin & Juice is quite possibly the best thing I've ever heard.

I'll throw in another vote for MJ. I was a huge fan in the early nineties but I was just a kid so when shit got weird I was embarrassed to like his music and kind of forgot about it over time. After his death I got reaquainted.

I dunno about 'shouldn't' but I definitely have an odd taste. I've got Awolnation, Billy Joel, Neon Trees, NIN, PJ, The Wallflowers, and Van Morrison in pretty heavy rotation on my phone.

  • Sometimes I feel embarrassed to enjoy some female pop artists like Lady Gaga and P!nk, although I finally got over it this April. It must have been the fact of the Orion Music and More Festival, a festival created by Metallica, I went this Summer and found out in February that The Joy Formidable would play (although they cancelled due to travel delays) and Dead Sara was later added in April, which they were hand picked by Metallica themselves.
