Why do I have 5 messages in my outbox. Do I have to wait until someone comes into work on the West Coast for them to be sent...

Darlene, that just means the people you have sent them to have not opened/read those pm's yet.

I was just coming here with a similar question. So I see the answer is that they just haven't opened it yet, but I have 2 follow up questions:

1) I notice the msg isn't in my "sent" folder - is that normal too? I thought it went to my sent folder as soon as I sent it, regardless of when it got opened by the person I sent it to. Is it normal for it to not appear in my sent folder?

2) If something changes between when I sent it and when it gets opened, if I edit or delete the message in my outbox, will it still go to the person I was mailing to?

I have received a message that says "this message was deleted before you opened it" type deal. And I couldn't open it nor see the title. (But i did figure out the title after checking the email i get when i receive a PM, but never actually found out what the body of the message was.) Hope this helps.
