  • Funny I came across this thread because over the last few months I picked up 2 (mid-90's early 2000's) 1 Phillips and 1 sharp stereo's from the flea market... The phillips is in mint condition,200 watts and was only 10$ !

I came to the realization that docking stations are garbage compared to the stereo's I had as a teen ...

First stereo as teenager included Marantz receiver(still have it) pioneer speakers and recoded player, technics EQ and dual cassette. When I purchased first home I wired it for surround with 5.1 with four of the same speakers and sub. Volume was good but not rocking out loud. Blew couple speakers. In last house, newly single said fk it and got high power Onkyo and two JBL towers with good center speaker for movies. Still use sub for extra bass. Technics sl1200 and I'm set. Receiver has USB doc so can IPod as well. I do use docking station in garage. Well till I get time to run some wires. There are good uses for doc stations but no substitute for a proper stereo. :D

So fortunate my girl also likes it loud especially pj. Phew.
