just heard ken died (9 days ago) the other day. 12 rounds, heavy weight boxing match, ali vs' norton. norton breaks ali's jaw in something like 4 pieces or something. ali does not stop & goes the full 12 rounds. unreal determination & strength.
back in the 70's it was quite something when folks gathered around the television & watched a heavy weight boxing match.

ken norton was a under dog & a nobody until he beat ali & sent him to the hospital. in ali's corner they'd take out ali's mouth piece after each round & ali's mouth piece & mouth was just full of a thick frothy blood that filled the ice water bucket fulla red

  • I was saddened by this too. Guy was a legend and this barely was news to people. Kinda sad in that regard.

    i fully agree. when a boxer can keep up with or pass up ali... they are a huge deal in the boxing world. i was always astounded how ali fought round after brutal round with a destroyed jaw

    after ali's adrenaline wore off from the fight & crowd that had to frickin smart like ten... just gettin hammered in the jaw or face round after round with a busted jaw bone, i'd think that would nearly kill most people & simply force them into folding up camp

  • Great link, chadwick;
    I read the whole article,
    + I couldn't help pulling out this quote:
    “Ken Norton is the best man I’ve ever fought," Ali said.
    "He is better than Joe Frazier, Jerry Quarry, Sonny Liston—any of them.”

    Praise don't get much higher than that, I dare say.

    Eternal memory (vichnaya pamyat).
