Kind of Blue is my all time favourite album, the first time I listened to it it was a real corner stone for me.

One of my favourites: Duke Ellington & John Coltrane - In a Sentimental Mood

Being home bound with a mild bug, I pulled out and listened to some great jazz today and thought it might be time to revive this jazz thread. Today's favorites were a pair of Albert Ayler LPs, "Spiritual Unity" and "Spirits Rejoice" and the excellent 2 LP set by Ornette Coleman (especially the trio sides with David Izenson on bass and Charles Moffett on drums), "Ornette Coleman in Europe Volume 1 and Volume 2". Outstanding!

My dad's a jazz drummer. He and Jack Kerouac got me into jazz. I started with "Birth Of The Cool" from Miles Davis and "The Savoy Sessions" from Davis and Parker. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuVWNv2kEkE

What I really love when I walk home at night and the streets are empty is the Soundtrack to "Ascenseur pour l'echafaud". It's this cold and lonely feeling that it gives you. I think people started to call this "dark jazz". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ4l4oRkh_8

Lately I listen to a lot Esbjörn Svensson Trio and Jan Johansson.
