Anyone own one of these? I had never really heard about them until the other night. I went to the Arctic Monkeys show in philly and one dude in the crowd (not really near me) had one on a hat/helmet or something. And Alex Turner, the lead singer, asked to borrow it and he pt it on the drummers head. I had no idea what was going on, i thought it was just a hat with a light on it or something, no idea there was a camera on it until the following day when this video showed up on youtube and it was pretty awesome I thought:

Also someone strapped one to an eagle which was pretty cool:

I can imagine these are pretty expensive though, lol.

I have two, pretty neat. The new ones are getting a price cut as we speak.

Don't ever turn them on while plugged into your computer, though...

    Brickola!

They might know HD, but they're pretty bad at firmware :P

    Their support can suck too.

You can do a lot of cool things with these camers but they do have drawbacks. The audio is terrible and while the Hero3 is supposed to be better, the Hero 2 does not perform well in low light. If considering buying one, I would hold off. They are do to release a new model soon.

    All good points.
Also if you get a Hero 3 you may as well spring for the Black edition as the silver is essentially a 2.

Thanks! It' an Red Hot Chili Pepper instrumental. Don't know the name. It was labeled as "Stadium Arcadium", but that's obviously not right. If someone knows I am very curious too.

No prob. Use a card reader instead. Safe to plug into the computer for charging.

I've got one. I actually lost one in costa rica, but got the hero2 when I found out my CC insured loses like this.
I dig the camera, but its actually not that great underwater. But I havent tried the filters yet. I hear they help for underwater stuff.

They are great for action stuff because the fisheye lens minimizes jittery camera work, I think.
I think the video quality can be great in good lighting.

(I plug mine into my computer all the time, and its fine.)
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

I did for a long time with no issue as well, but it's a time bomb my friend. Not worth it.

I've only used mine underwater twice, both times seemed ok for me.

Just an update to my bitching about connecting your GP to your computer:

I was just on their page (the HDHero3+ was just released) and saw on their support page that they still have the manual software update process, but have now added a process in which you connect the camera to your computer.

I personally would still opt for the manual update process, but it is possible they've improved their firmware over the HD2 (which is what I have) in this regard.

Old thread, figured I'd ask here instead of creating a new one.

I have had a Hero4 for many years, and love it. I just purchased the Hero9 and was curious if anyone has had experience using it without the additional waterproof housing. Although it states it can handle up to 33', has anyone here attempted that in a salt water setting? I am trying to avoid buying the housing, as I am assuming the touch screen feature may not be usable, and that was a selling point to utilize for scuba and/or snorkeling.

    Thanks in advance!
